Is this if you redline it at 8k or 7500?

well if memory serves someone was bored and did the 5th gear on a dyno or something. it was the dyno or a calculation. fifth was supposed to hit 204mph if the power was there. wind would slow the car down well before it hit this mark though

There's only one redline.....8k. The 7500 rpm marker is a warning to shift......

Here's the exact speeds:

1st: 41
2nd: 70
3rd: 101
4th: 141
5th: 196?

ok - so next question - what are the best shift points for each gear? Typically each gear you shift a little bit before the previous for optimum acceleration - right?

i.e . 1st 8k
2nd 7800k
etc.

I'm pretty sure that this is different for every car. Anyone have a dyno they want to post to make an example...

To figure out your optimum shift points on YOUR car, you need to plot your dyno torque curve in excel and then see how much power makes it to the ground in each gear at each speed.

For example, because I have installed a shorter 5th gear ratio, I actually get max acceleration by shifting out of 4th at about 7500 RPM rather than holding out to 8000.

Not unless you have other supporting mods. The stock ecu fuel cuts at 8300 rpm. Unless you have a good-sized streetport and a midpipe, there's really no point to revving that high anyway as the power will be falling off pretty hard by then.

if u look in every car im sure this applies.

One gear in each car, is exact or very close that when u double the rpms, and add a zero u get the speed. in our car its 4thj,

I always cruise at 2krpms in 4th going 40 mph.

If you have stock diameter wheels and tires, it IS NOT different for every car. The gearing is the same for every car, there's no variabililty in that. What's different is the error in your speedometer and tachometer.....

I redline 2nd at autox's fairly often. Seems I am just under 70 mph at 8000 rpm; more like 67 mph or so.

According to RP's gear chart posted above I was off. It's 68 mph

Depends on the gears. Ideally when you upshift to the next gear you don't want to fall out of the power curve. That means you may carry the previous gear a little longer so that when you upshift you find yourself right in the powerband again. On the same note there is no reason to carry a lower gear any longer than necessary to keep the upshift in the power band.

It all depends on the gear spacing so different cars and even different shifts on the same car may vary, since the spacing between each gear may not be even.
