MAP sensor Vs Mass Airflow

Given the inherent disadvantages of trying to measure airflow with a Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor (IE, once you start changing the flow characteristics of the system by adding high flow exhaust/intake you change the entire fuel air map) has anyone considered dumping the MAP sensor and switching to MAF? You would need a new computer, but since anyone who has done any modifications has already gone to something like a power FC, WTF?

It just seems silly to try to "guess" what the airflow is based on MAP, when it is possible to measure it directly, with a MAF. It seems to me that would save a lot of popped engines.

Anyone know if the PFC will support a MAF?

Any good reasons not to go with a MAF that i am not thinking of?

Thanks,

Mike Parsons

Sounds like a decent idea, but I don't know nearly enough about that stuff to answer the question. Either way it should be interesting to hear the responses.

well for starters we have stock twins, so the system would be complicated. Along with special piping lengths and such to make the sensors read correctly...

their is no reason to pioneer something like this, Tons of people have their car running fine map based, the relocation of the air temp sensor makes this work even better so.... If the car had a maf stock that would be a different thing.

most people doing heavy mods on other cars switch to speed density systems. we should consider ourselves lucky that the car comes with one already.
