manual trans, Q's?[PICS]

Okay, I have my baby now but I still need some things straitened out before I go head first into sticking her in the car.

I took a crap load of pics to illustrate:

I'm going to break out the OHM-meter tomorrow and try to answer a couple of these myself after work. What is the purpose of each of these sensors? I'm aware of the reverse, nuetral sensor and speedo sensor but I'm not sure which of this is which or what the 4th is. I've been told it is a 1-2 shift sensor but I dont exactly understand the purpose of that.

Now I am pretty sure the master cyl attaches to from the outside on the smaller opening. Does the slave cyl go on the other side INSIDE the bellhousing? Also if someone has the 'hydraulics diagram' available I'd appreciate it so I can tell where all the lines need to run.

Here are the master/slave cyls:

Now I cant remember the name of this small 'attachment' but I seem to remember a tutorial going over the 5th synch mentioning replacement as a good idea. I see the other side has a 'cover' of some sort, is this a differant item or is this so it can be reversed for the RHD models? I'm assuming this is some sort spring mechanism for the left-to-right movement of the shifter. In case you dont know what I'm referancing I mean the two 'bulbed' covers above the tailshaft in the pic.

Now I dont know as I couldnt find any deacent stock shifter pics but this one looks as though it may be damaged and I was looking for some varification of that.

There is a ring inside the trans that the shifter goes into that looks damaged as well as the opposing ring ON the shifter itself... I know the boot is torn as well. Inside the 'ball' indentation it looks damaged/chipped but again, I dont know and in my search I couldnt find any pics.

Thanks guys,
~Kris

Hydraulics:

The slave cylinder (top one in your pic) bolts onto the outside of the bellhousing and pushes on the end of the clutch fork. The master cylinder bolts to the firewall -- the clutch pedal pushes the rod into the body of the cylinder.

Here is another one for the books,

Anyone know the differant sizes of bolts/nuts I need for the bellhousing, shifter, etc? Ray at Malloy is trying to look up the bolts from Mazda but hasnt gotten anything for me just yet.

Okay....

The left-top(4pin) cable is the 1-2 switch, but I still dont know what the hell it does... is anyone aware of its purpose?

Right-bottom looks to be the back-up lights, but I'm not 100% on that...

Also, something I havent seen mentioned in any of the other threads.... has anyone used the AUTO engine harness as well as the AUTO dash harness isnteado fo useing the MANUAL engine harness and changing pinouts.

~Kris

Any info is appreciated.

Really, the only sensor that's NEEDED from the tranny is the reverse sensor and speed sensor. The other sensors are primarily for emissions purposes, but it's generally a good idea to go ahead and hook them up .

I know the 1-2 sensor plays into the AWS - you can start the car in gear, and the AWS won't kick on. I'm sure it has other emissions and idle related functions.

The clutch switch is actually on the pedal isnt it? So that I can wire pretty easy from there....

The speedo and back-ups are primary for sure... the 1-2 I am gonna try to wire just because but I dont know how far I'll get with it. lol

The last switch I assume is the 'nuetral switch'? Now what is its purpose?

I am assuming that you are converting over from an auto to manual.

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...n+Tim+McCreary

The first/second gear switch tells the ECU what gear you are in for emissions and such. Not critical, but good to hook up.

Are you using the Manual harness from the engine/tranny into the car firewall and into the computer/harnesses? Or are you maintaining the Auto Harness from the engine/tranny into the car?

My conversion works when using a manual harness and converting inside the car to the existing auto harness.

There is actually two clutch pedal switches. One is for the cruise control that allows the cruise to shut off when the pedal is pressed in. It is located and engaged at the normal clutch pedal position of up. The other is a starter interlock. It just prevents the starter from engaging if the clutch is not pressed in. It can be bypassed if you don't mind that. It actually comes in handy when starting the car from the outside. You can just reach into the window and start it. It can also be custom wired to a kill switch instead to aid in preventing theift.

You can email me direct for any questions on the electronics or conversion.

Thanks for the info Tim, actually I have read up on that information to use the manual engine harness with auto interior harness previously but I'd like to avoid the extra purchase if possible. I'm trying to use the auto engine harness in hopes that I can ghetto-fy it enough to function properly.

I figured that worst case scenerio the reverse lights and speedo sensor wires are already there for the existing automatic so hooking them into the manual should be a snap. The 1-2 switch I can worry about later when I can do things right and get both an interior and engine manual harnesses.

The clutch as you said should be easy to wire the interlock to, as well as the cruise as I'd hate to loose that feature.
