malfunction indicator light
ok, for some reason, the light turned on driving tonite. I was driving for about 10 mins, and then the little "check" light came on. The crap book that mazda gives u with the car says its problems with the electrical system. Could this light turn on from something as mundane as a turn signal burning out? All my lights still work btw, but I was just wondering if this indicator light is hooked up to all the electrical stuff. So, anyways, I pull over and shut the car off, and started it up again. The light was off, but driving for like another 5 mins, it turned right back on again. I ignored it, got to where I needed to be, and came back to the car like 3-4 hrs later. I drove home and no light. What kind of things usually set this light off? Any common problems? I was driving with the rear defroster on because I couldn't see a thing outta the back windshield, along with using the stock fogs when the indicator light came on. Would this somehow (can't see why) have set it off?

If you are refering to the check engine light, no, mundane things such as a burnt turn signal bulb will not set it off. That light only deals with engine management issues. THe description of it taking a few minutes to set(come on) points toward something such as a bad O2 sensor signal, or some other thing that it takes a time out to set. You need the factory manual to interpert the codes. Just insert a jumper in the diagnostic connector and read the flashing check engine lamp. DO a search for the factory manual, I know there are a couple of sites hosting the manual. Good luck
