made a couple vacuum/boost leak testers
so i had/have some leaks causing my idle to not go below 1300rpms. first i tried spraying carb cleaner around and i could tell there was leaks but i couldnt see where they came from.
so then i made a simple plug to fit on the end of my throttle body elbow or turbo inlet with a tire valve on the end of it, this enabled me to pressurize the whole intake, this worked better and i found 2 leaks in the upper manifold this way, but i couldnt see where the leak below the manifold was.
so i made a 10" aluminum plate that can be bolted to either the UIM or the lower intake manifold. I put 4 tire valves in for each runner so i can test each section seperately. it works so much better, now i can actually look and feel around as i pressurize the manifold. Plus i can plug both ends of the UIM so i can test the unit outside of the car on a bench. heres some pics.

yeah it will work for vacuum lines. the only difference between a vacuum line under vacuum and a vacuum line under boost is that one sucks and one blows. so you just listen for air escaping. Unless your particular hose leaking has a 1 way check valve, but thats not an issue in my single turbo system.
the primary reason i made it was because somthing was leaking under the UIM and i couldnt pinpoint what it was. It could have been a vacuum nipple, the primary injector rail, secondary injector rail, the gasket that seals the LIM to the block, or the gasket that seals the UIM to the LIM.
It turns out my primary injector rail was leaking because it had no seals in it. I couldn't find that leak by just spraying carb cleaner or using propane, or even using a pressure tester on the boost pipe.
you can also bolt it to the UIM and seal off the other end at the throttle body elbow and test for leaks there. I agree i dont think manifolds crack very often, but there are alot of places that can leak and this will allow you to find out for sure what it is rather then just replacing parts. Especially parts like the LIM to block gasket. which is what i was suspecting my leak was. I would be pissed if i took everything apart to replace that gasket to find out i still had a vacuum leak.
