M2 Exension Duct - any user experiences?
I recently picked up an M2 extension duct. I was a tad surprised at how large it is - it basically blocks half of the radiator.
I was wondering if anybody had run this and what effect it had on water and intake temperatures. I'm not fully comfortable blocking half of my radiator - at least with current 80F California temperatures.

I do not think M2 made that. Their first all aluminum cold air box model was in my car and as was one of their radiators. I frequently visited their site until Brian fell out of grace. Never saw that advertized. Must be home grown.

I don't think M2 ever sold those, but Kevin Wyum did when he was selling the IC's under the ASP brand name. Actually, as I recall he automatically gave one extension duct with every kit (wasn't even an added-cost option). I think I actually have 2 of them sitting in my garage. I suppose I never personally saw the need to use it, although I've kicked the idea around several times.
As I recall, Kevin specifically said that the extension duct needed to be cut/trimmed in order to use it. He gave it to everyone as-is, so that they could cut/trim it as they saw fit.
Maybe try doing some searching under his screen name (Kevim T. Wyum) to find more info...

Ok, #1, that is the ASP Extension Duct, that is part of the ASP medium and large intercooler kits. It is made oversize so that each owner can trim it to fit their application. It is made to slide up and fit between the main duct and the radiator and allow you to adjust/balance the amount of air that goes to the IC the same way you can do it with the v-mount setups. In my opinion V-mount and S-mount ICs really are not very different, but I digress.
#2, M2 was supposed to be giving these ducts to all their customers with the IC kits when they sold them. As many people know there was issues between Kevin (the original creator) and M2 and this was one of them. As many of you also know, Damian and I took over production for the ASP kits and we are authorized to sell the extension duct separately for nominal cost, so if you have a ASP medium/large and you didn't get the extension duct and want one just let me know. If you can get it from someone else on the forums that works too and would probably be quicker, since I would have to have them made.
#3, The duct is actually very durable, it's pretty thick fiberglass. I have had mine come loose (from 150 mph track speeds) and it's still fine. I eventually bolted it to the main duct to keep it from moving at high speed.
#4, I have a couple pics of the install/ducting on the front of my car. I'm able to run full 20-25 minute sessions without slowing down in 105 degree ambient temps with this setup. 12psi of boost, water/air retard on the pfc start to kick in at 105/50 to keep things under control. I also run a little water injection to help. You can see I've done some additional (custom) ducting to get the GTC nose to line up nicely with the radiator and IC well. If I can find a good pic of the front with the nose on I'll post that as well.
