Keeping the boost at 12 psi is safe, more than that, the turbos will work harder and hotter and they are not really designed for high boost applications. That's why companies like M2, Pettit, and etc... have upgrade twins. I called Turbonetics and tallked to Myles and asked why they don't upgrade the stock twins anymore? He said that when they used to upgrade them, they eventually going to crack (didn't specify where) or don't last because of stress. I think the companies that sells their upgrade twins should test their unit before they sell them.

the stock twins would be upgraded with larger wheels and such but the rods were too thin and would not handle the excess force...the would break. such is the word when I asked about that myself with turbonetics and performance techniques...perf tech sucks...avoid them at all costs..their work sucks and their stuff leaks badly.

I know my friend had a job done by them and it smoked badly after he installed them and they won't fix the problem. I know they used to do a lot of Turbonetics turbos before but not anymore. Some of my friends had good luck with them, I guess they just have poor quality control.

e-mail it to me. I will post it. Or maybe Vosko or someone could host it for you and you could post it that way.

hey captn...have you been on the dyno since that first run where you had some other issues influencing the numbers?

I bought a set from an ******* in alabama.. I think the problem is call bearings can and usually do use teflon seals. The problem is under high heat they fail and then you turbos die. This has happened to me not once, not twice, but 3 times!!!

Hey was it BNR Supercars? I saw him post about his business....and I was wondering how good his work was..

I just bought a used set of twins for a steal, and bolted them up. They work great and don't blow oil like my old set. However, my old set looks great, and could be a good core set...but I guess rebuilding sucks....

Oh well, I guess I will sell my old set..

Later,
Patrick

Faster spool-up of the M2 twins will not affect smog. The roller test is steady state so the turbos aren't doing anything at all.

I was going to get M2's twins but got tired of not being able to get clarification on why you would use a turbo capable of 400hp to make only 200-225hp. Or how to make their Bosche fuel pump not get fuel starvation whenever you have less than half a tank of gas. Or being able to talk to Brian at all. So now I have a brand-new T04E waiting to be installed.... and an SR fuel pump.

the '99 turbos also spool up a little faster, and are designed for a little more boost.

Not worth an outright upgrade, but if you have to buy new turbos anyway (like, your housings are toast) then they are worth it - for a nice streat car. No ball bearings either - effeciency is in the blade design and and a closer tollerance on the driver wheels.

capt. bill1,

You're right about going flat at 6000 rpm. I guess we have to wait until you get a stand alone system and fuel system. Not bad though.

Thanks glass-man!

93blackr1, the power going flat was caused by my J&S knock senser. With that taken out of the picture the car pulls strong passed 6000. I just have not had the time to go back to the dyno yet. When I do I'll get glass-man to post the new slip for me if he is willing. :-)
Better yet, maybe by then I can fiqure out how to post it myself.

I wish you had a dyno graph from a date when your car was working well. Im realllly curious about what to expect.

regardless...you never did really tell us how much of a difference you felt between the stock set and the m2 set.

what do you think captn?

artguy, my 40-70 times are down to 3.2 to 3.6 seconds. That is a full second or more under stock times. So yes, you can really feel the difference. And so far in the 40 - 70 times thread I have not seen any times lower as of yet. So I am very happy with them so far. And once I get some larger injectors and a management system so I can run more boost I'm sure I will be even happier.
Hope to have a new dyno plot soon.

Bill!
Didn't realize you were so close..I'm in Naples and I used to go to The Dyno Shop to, well, dyno. Thing is, he uses the Fueltronics wideband which does not integrate, and cannot plot on the dynojet graphs. If you drive 15 min. further south to Naples, we can run your car on a state of the art Clayton with integrated wide band and five gas analyzer. It'll simulate true "street" loading and it does NOT correct for air/altitude. Correction is great for comparison puposes with your buddy in Cali, but it's not accurate for the "universe" you drive in if that makes sense. It does peak hold and inertia runs (dynojet style). Let me know and maybe we can hook up at some point. When I receive my datalogit, I'll be heading back to test out a few maps, get the car corner weighted and install a set of 996TT monobloc calipers with larger disks/aluminum hats up front. What ECU are you running? M2's?

newRX7fan, not yet! Damn it! I keep hearing, soon come, soon come.

Same problem with Ari at RX7.com. He has had my J&S knock senser for over a month now and I have called him at least once a day since last week and can't ever get him on the phone nor will he return my calls! All I want is an answer to a simple question, have you tested my J&S yet? No luck.

rx7tt95, That would be great! While I liked the guy who owned the shop, I was not impressed with his lack of integrated A/F readings. Please Email PM me yours and the dyno shop's contact info. And yes, I am running an M2 stage 3 ECU.

Doing the fuel system...the stronger motor...the pfc and tuning...as well as the turbo work has taken since october....thats a long time without my fun.

Im going to break it in over the next couple weeks. Will post my dyno numbers and 40-70 times shortly after.

gosh I cant wait!!

a full second faster...thats a lot of difference...I wonder what the other turbo setups are getting for 40-70 times...if I find out exact numbers..Ill post em.
