Lower control arm removal

Im removing a left front lower control arm. It has 3 mounting points. Two on the front subframe and one with the brake assembly. I cant get the brake assembly stud to drop. Ive tried hitting it with a hammer. Is there a trick? Do I need an airhammer? Do I use a huge flathead to wedge it out?

Edit: Argh the manual says use an SST but I dont know what that is?!?
Edit2: looks to be some sort of ball joint puller? sst#49 0118 850C
Edit3: The manual kick ***. its a ^ and apparently there were other tools to make my job easier.

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Rent or buy a balljoint splitter. There are two common types. The pickle fork that you use with a hammer (be careful not to rip the boots):

And the screw type:

I've always used the pickle but watch what you're doing so you don't rip the boots.
