hi all,

slight problem i have on my car at the moment, excuse the writing here because im alittle intoxicated. The secondary boost is low, the car boosts about 10-8-10 then drops straight down to 7/8...its weird, i get the 8 at transition, then it pops straight back up to 10, then back down to 7 or 8. Its just over half a bar on the secondary.

Any ideas what the problem is? the car is a 92 FD with 65k on the clock, new spark plugs, oil change, coolant change and rats nest job all within the last 1k miles.

hmm. this question has been asked alot this week lol.


first thing to do is inspect the rubber intercooler pipes if you are stock. look at lower one going into the intercooler, and the one right above the turbo Y pipe.

 

It's entirely normal on a stock FD for the boost to drop back down to 8 psi or so after 6000 rpm.

Really???? mine never used to! it feels pretty slow to be honest on secondary turbo now... oh well, downpipe and midpipe it is i guess!

 

Have you managed to have a look at the cat yet?

 

no not yet, because the problem that was evident before has now disappeared after putting new spark plugs in, so i didnt bother. The car ran perfect after new spark plugs, and its just now started boosting half a bar on the secondary.

 

I think when the cat breaks up it can cause the car to be a bit temperamental. It doesn't take too long to pop off.

Mine was pretty much toast after 60k. If you don't want to replace it with a bit of pipe, I believe you can just knock the ceramic out of it to create a straight through exhaust! Should be good for a temporary fix at least.

Well mine just fell out, it was that bad. It's pretty fragile stuff, so shouldn't be a problem to remove.
