Low RPM Stumbling/Hesitation

Around 1500-2500 rpms with very light load. It idles perfectly and engine sounds like it's running smoothly. This has happened to me 3 times and it happens at night with my lights on; i've never had this problem during the day. The car is a 93 Touring Auto if that helps and is stock except for the Cat-Back (don't worry, i have a dp & ast ready to install and i'm also taking the car to Pettit for a check-up and hose job).

Any ideas? I've read several threads and have heard this could be a grounding problem since it always happens when my a/c, lights, and radio is on. Thanks-Clayton Tate

The same thing happens to me. It's just the infamous 3000 rpm hesitation, but it's more like 1800-1900 rpm hesitation for me.

I took the 7 for a drive to check my rpm's one more time and saw that my stumbling is coming from 1500-2000rpms. I drove for about 3 mins with the lights on and it stumbled several times. Then i drove for 3 mins without lights on (don't worry, i was on the local community college parking lot) and had no stumbling what-so-ever.

Would upgrading my ground wires (Damians grounding chart) stop this stumbling? Has anyone else had this problem and cured it by upgrading the grounds? Thanks- Clayton Tate

Hey Clayton!
Past threads have pointed to grounding, but it's not always the cause. On the plus side, upgrading your grounding wires can only help. I'll be doing it to my R1 in the next week or so.

Steve

Other then the hesitation, how is the car doing?

The car is running awesome other than this slight problem.

I can't work on it because i've put too much money into my g/f's car trying to get it running. It's okay because i'll have money shortly to get a floorjack, jackstands, etc and start working on it. I've e-mailed you with links to Damian's grounding chart and the wires he used to perform it.

Oh yeah, e-mail me some pics of your Rx-8 if you are still thinking of purchasing one

Clayton

Get the secondary ground package from Pettit...I used that on my FD, and the hesitation almost disappeared.

I just might do that. I'm taking my car to Pettit sometime after Oct. 17 (friends wedding) to get somethings done to the car. I think i'd rather make my own kit though.
