I once parked my FD in a *completely* empty parking lot.

Before I could get out of the car, some woman parked right next to me.

I of course moved, and she had a quizzical look on her face - she was totally clueless.

It's not often necessary to impugn bad motives - such things can usually be attributed to ignorance, naivete and stupidity.

some people just home in on things like a heat seeking missile, like a single car in an empty parking lot or a big boulder in the middle of an empty desert(i'm sure some will get this)..

Yeah I hate that. I park three rows away from everyone and yet someones feeels the need to park next to me. Or I'm out in the surf and intentionally paddle away from the pack to a less desireable peak but with no one on it. Sure enough in no time I spot some ****** walking down the beach stops right in front of me and paddles in only to be right next to me... Really dude? now we are competing for the same waves?

it wasn't till recently that I found out why people do that:

Basically we are wired to be followers.

Some people are weaker in the mind than others. Those are the ones that park next to us IMO of course.

Things like this have been known to take place @ opportune times, given the right scenario just happens to occur..

i know, if anything i in vision just some one backing up and damaging only the bumper... but in reality it would probably be like the hood, headlights and fender along with the bumper.

happened to me, I had the car on the street in front of my house a few years back and my brother's friend backed out of the driveway right into it. headlight, bumper, reinforcement and fender all had to be replaced, the hood should've been too but I didn't notice that until after everything was finished and the insurance company had already paid out.

This is the exact reason why my rare but sadly very low "bluebook" priced Two door Crown Vic is messed up down both sides, people seem to think they are still playing bumper cars when parking, which is why I don't drive the car everywhere, I'll take the bus if I have to park in a crowded situation.
This is what I'm thinking what they are thinking when they park..."duuhhh, big truck fit here...CCCCRUNCH Uuuh its just a "cheap" Mazda no big deal" FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!...Rage.

Literally two days before I left for Afghanistan, something like this happened to me. I had to leave my FD with a bumper full of holes and covered with scratches in an outside holding lot.
Now I'm headed home soon and have an excuse (and most importantly the money) to finally go 99 Spec! In fact, that's what lead me to this thread in the first place! Just gotta do some more research and find a good body shop near Ft. Bragg...
I just hope that this new bumper/paint job will last longer than my last one!

My mom hit my FD with her Honda Fit it took a large paint chip off of my fender leaving the metal exposed and a large scrape on my bumper. The thing is that I would rather have had my car hit then hers. I was planning to get new fenders and I have a new bumper I was going to get painted anyways. Her car now has a giant Montego Blue stripe on her rear passanger door.

People would think you're completely weird if you were in a social setting and didn't do something that they were all obviously doing intentionally and purposefully, like taking off hats or shoes. If someone just does the same thing as everyone else it might not be that they are weak in mind, they might have put a lot of thought into the situation and decided that it's safer to just stay in their seat, take off the hat, whatever. Sure it takes guts to be different, but if you're being different just for the sake of being different I wouldn't brag about it. Unless your this Spanish cop who was the only one to jump off a subway platform and save a life:

Well some of us like getting hammered, but not in parking lots.

Sorry about your bumpers guys and thanks for serving PoorCollegeKidd, welcome home.

No, that was almost 8 months ago. I am finishing up my tour here. Now that I am getting close to leaving, I'm at a base that has internet so I can finally dig into this forum and figure out all the projects I need to do when I get back!

Thanks for the support Mandrake!

There is a place off hope mills road, I wish I could remember exactly how to get there but I can sort of explain it. They did my brothers car when the rear bumper caught on fire a few years ago and you can still not tell at all.

From Fayetteville turn onto Hope Mills Rd. When you get to the street that has the shops on the right, turn right. Follow that down I believe to the end about a mile down, there will be a gas station on your right and take another right. The place will be on the left. I will find out the name of the place if my brother remembers it.

Sounds great, thanks man! I talked to EPIC (one of the only tuning places around here although mostly Subarus) and they suggested Callahan's. But I've got nothing but time and a slow internet connection so I'm trolling the forums and will def. check out your place!

That happened to my MX-6 once, just got out of the body shop and some ******* in this Cavalier put a ding on my door, on the side where it just got painted and left it's ugly yellow paint on there. His car was still there when I got back, so I took my key around it twice.

Keep it classy fellow RX7 owners. You two are ******* morons. Call the police.

eerr I think you missed to point of my post. It was regarding why people park next to a lonely car or paddle right next to me in an empty surf line up. It had nothing to do with social pressure.

Yes if an individual is just following for the sake of following even though they know better it is being weak in the mind.
