Looking to get a real car huh? If your thinking of getting an RX be prepared to spend alot of money and keep the Advil nearby for the headaches you'll get. They're great cars but are known for their frequent and often difficult to troubleshoot problems. In two years I've spent over $20,000 on the car, just keeping it running. You truly have to have a love for the RX. If your interested, do exactly what you did, get on the forum, do some researching and talk to people about the car. These are very different cars than the ones you're used to so researching could save you some money. Like knowing that an RX burns about 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles, and not trusting your oil level sensor, and locking your motor up, and having to spend $12,000 for a new motor. Didn't happen to me though . Welcome to the forum and good luck if you purchase an RX. You'll need it. May the force be with you!

1 quart/ 1700-1800 miles is normal. If your car is burning 1qt every 1000 miles you've got problems. $20,000 does sound like an *** load of money to spend on repairs. You could have bought another FD for that much.

If you want you can go to my site (which is butt-ugly and still under construction). There are some really good links as far as general information about the car as well as buying tips, things to look for, etc.

http://mywebpages.comcast.net/twyatt/index.htm

Look on the left of the page under General Info links.

I have only had my RX for about a month, but I love the car and it is well worth the time and money spent to keep it running good. It is a true sport car and a head turner. Get one...you WILL love it!

Second that, no-one can accuse that man of not being a dedicated FD owner !

I'm on my way with the credit cards, thankfully no wife to divorce when it gets silly

thanks guys, i like this site, its better than alot of other ones i am on. Thanks for the input, now as for wanting to own an RX, i totally do! so badly, specially after the one in my town absolutley destroyed my car (4 car lengths) i am really curious about the wankel motor, i understand it, but i do not know its tendencies and characteristics. But i am in Canada, and finding a good 3rd gen is down right impossible for the money i can get my hands on too, i am saving right now, and after i sell my car, i might have enough for a nice one, around 25k CDN, so like 17ish USD, anyways, thanks guys.

you should really get a good after-market warrantee just in case your engine, transmission, etc blows, and you don't have $5K. Carmax has a good program.

Tyrel,

I totally agree with hategreen on suggesting an extended warranty. I paid $750 to extend my warranty to 85,000 miles. That sucker saved my *** $12,000+ in various things covered under warranty:

New Engine
Turbos
rebuilt tranny
2 water pumps
motor mounts
...

I've had my car for 5 years and I still love it! I just found out about this forum 6 months ago. I wish I had known about years ago! Now I have been hooked on Modding my car. It's like having a brand new car with each Mod. Have fun.

Repairs are one thing but once you're bitten by the rotary-bug you're a gonna. ..I've sunk about $40,000 into my FD ( mods, music and paint job) and I am from Trinidad ..in the Caribbean and I gotta' find $6.3 of my dollars for every $1.00 US dollar I need to buy more stuff...arggg argggg !!

..anyone need a few Kgs? :-)

Here's what she looks like ..notice the gauges over the dash..on the other side ..it's a right hand drive like all the cars down here.

Thumbs down

I dont know about dedication ,stupidity maybe. You paid $300 for freakin battery! Two seperate times mind you .One would think after getting ripped once you would wise up. you know a $100 miata battery sits right in the rear compartment. You could have picked it up at track auto. What you have to have the m2 battery? In my opinion $4200 for a new motor is too much but I'll give that one to you I guess you cant get them for what I can roughly $2800 for factory reman.Let me see if I am understanding this correctly are you basically telling me you paid another$4000 for the install on this motor? Then another $4000 for parts from the dealer that you dont even remember !?Man and after all that you car still didnt run right ?!!!! Yes in my book thats a piece of **** you are 100% correct. You really need to learn how to do the work yourself then you wont have these kinds of problems.Sounds to me like the dealer and mechanic saw you coming a mile away.Missing check valve? Christ man didnt you check their work? Sounds like you got some studying to do.Your wife was right to leave you your a sucker!!!You have dedication alright but you obviously lack a little in the knowhow depatment.
Learn your car a bit better man and you will save your self a **** load of headaches and cash.
Workshop manuel $70
some basic tools $250 for good sears selection
$3000 for hydraulic lift if ya want to go crazy and splurge
sounds alot f***ing cheaper than $20,000 huh pal.
sorry 'bout your luck but some people just dont get it.

Holy **** !

That's more than an E-3 makes in a year, guys. I'm an O-2 (First Lieutenant) in the Army and make a substantial amount more, and the FD is killing *my* credit card statements right now...

Hey Crazy Jake, come April I'll be stationed at Fort Hood, near Austin. Maybe I can help you w/working on your FD. Also, *stop* taking the car to these two bit shops. Rotary Performance in Garland (in the d/fw area) will save you alot of money compared to what you're been spending, and they really know the FD well, so the job will get done right the first time.

Send me a PM if you want any more info....
