That said, it must not produce any downforce, because if it did, it would rip right off at speed... being held on by not much.

The '99, by contrast, actually has metal frame inserts in the uprights.

This is proven or just your thoughts?

It's a pretty educated observation, having had both wings.

On set? What set? movie, commercial? ru an actor?

I have the US spoiler. I think it looks more sinister.

But the Japanese version is nice also. There's nothing I don't like about FDs. The best designed sports car for $40K ever.

99spec and the FEED wing prob dont make more than 80lbs at say 120mph (educated guess) I consider them both the same as far as functionality. 80lbs may seem like a lot for the flimsy wing to hold but displaced over the whole wing, its really not too bad. I put 2x 45 weight dumbbells on the wing for kicks when I first installed it and it looked fine.. no flexing, cracking noises, etc. Its a crude was to judge, but at least now we know its good for 90lbs

99spec wing yields 200lbs at 140mph according to Mazda. Thats pretty damn impressive, almost too good to be true impressive. I guess I need more dumbbells

The airfoil section (which is the only thing producing any real downforce) is wider on the 99-spec wing, and the airfoil itself seems much stronger as do the supports that transfer that downforce to the car.

That, and I'm quite sure it saw wind tunnel time like all Mazda and Mazdaspeed parts. I really doubt the FEED wing did.

I usually prefer wingless, but that looks nice.

i was iffy about the 99 spec wing...

imo... i dont like it on a stock car or car with a high ride height/slightly modded. i REALLY like them on modded fd's that are low with rear diffusers kitted out and stuff. what sold me on the 99 spec wing was herblennys car.

Started installing this today using Crispy's write-up as a guide. Not going as smoothly as expected. Couple of notes:

1. Finding 'clear overhead plastic' in this day and age is unlikely. I taped up the area with blue painters tape to protect the existing paint. Most of use already have this stuff in the garage or can get it from Home Depot.

2. The original equipment screws for the R1 wing are not long enough to mount the 99 wing. Go to your local fastener source and buy some longer bolts. 16mm length should do it.

3. Be careful wet sanding. I scratched mine up a bit so I busted out my recently acquired orbital from Griots and polished up the hatch and the wing. Highly suggested to start this process by washing the car and being prepared with polish or compound and wax.

4. One of my bolt holes is looking a little bubbly like some water had collected there and rusted a bit. It's probably a good idea to have some touch up paint on hand to touch up these areas and others.

I just emailed Ray Crowe to try and get replacements for the two white clips for the inner rear attachment point. Hopefully he has them.

I work production mostly. I do the acting thing also but mainly when it's something that needs to be done or the roll just falls on me. I'm currently in the commercial world but an trying to jump over to television.

As for the wing, I feel the 93 spec wing doesn't do anything but at least the 99 gives some down force and it's adjustable. I'm also sure mist people are happy I didn't do my usual erector set wing.

I do like the 99 spec wing. Alas, I got my car with the original R1 wing. Can't mount the 99 spec without leaving 2 holes exposed.

If I was going to do it, I would move up to the Mazdaspeed wing. Go big or go home!

Looks kind of like the veilside wing from Torretos FD. I will always like that style of wing regardless.
