Don't want to alarm you, but my friend had that same noise and then his motor died in his R1 and after the motor was replaced it was never heard from again.

Is the coolant topped-off fully? I'd do a cooling system pressure check. If good, replace your radiator and AST caps also. That noise is from the coolant circulating through the heater core.

You have air trapped in your heater core. It sounds funny, doesnt it?

Just make sure the coolant system is topped off and bleed.

don't stress, it's just air bubbles in the coolant.. happens every time i flush the coolant. just wait for it to cool down, then top it off. do it a couple more times and bye bye sound...

shame on you johnsrx-7 for trying to scare lewis.

Definitely means your coolant is not topped off. It actually comes from underneath the dash on the passenger side.

Hey, I was just telling him what happen to a friend of mine's R1, the engine was drinking coolant faster than he could fill it up.

I had the same sounds! Turned out to be a coolant leak, the dreaded o-ring failure. Exhaust gasses forced their way into the coolant. Rebuilding now..
