Lost odometer, and then Lost it again

I lost the odometer reading on my previous fd, and thought it was just something blown on the circuit board or the cluster. Bought my new fd, odometer was working. Then my engine blew a coolant seal and I swapped my old engine into the new fd. Odometer doesnt work again. So logically Im thinking something is bad in my harness.

Any thoughts?

RenesisFD had the same issue and found that the ribbon cable was the culprit.

The ground that goes to your rat's nest/coil area is what will cause the odometer to display or not display. If you're capacitors are in good condition, ensure that ground is clean and proper. Try removing the positive cable from your battery for a few minutes and then put it back on. Sometimes thats a ghastly trick that works. You may also add an additional ground for the cluster. With some searching I'm sure you can find the thread I posted it in.

Why does the battery cable off and on make the odom work again? Is it some kind of discharge/charge on the capacitors?

Also, which wire serves as the ground for the cluster?

Thanks, never-ending cluster issues here.
