Lost mapping on PFC, WHY/HOW?

Ive just got my FD back from a specialist where it has been for a PFC fitting and mapping, to cut a long story short, whilst the car was in transit i received a phone call to say the FD had lost its mapping they had done when it finaly arrived the guy who brought it back(on a trailer) said the battery is flat!
Ime well pissed off Any ideas what would cause the PFC to loose its mapping Ime a bit confused why it has come back with a flat battery? which is fairly new(6 months) and more so when they have only just done the maping? 2 days ago, they reckon a faulty pfc? not sure if they are just trying to pass the buck as i suppled them with the new pfc, they have offered to come and map it again?(they are 200mls away) any ideas?
cheers
Steve

The maps in the PFC are written to the ROM chips. The only way to erase/lose a map is to reinitialize the PFC. I suppose there's a possibility that some kind of electrical surge could do it as well.

The situation seems a little fishy to me....

Seems a little fishy to me as well? why send the FD back with a flat battery for starters? then to say when it was in transit that there mapping had been lost? the story was that it had been maped but when they had gone back to it yesterday to start it the mapping had gone?????so ime guessing from them doing the mapping the six month old battery was ok then to start her up,but had gone flat whist it was on the trailer? somthing really strange???
Any other way the mapping could be lost? (They are supposed to be getting in touch today) Just a thought? If they had to jump the FD off could that cause any probs with the pfc?

are you talking about the fuel and ignition maps or the map sensor? i dont see how a power fc can lose its programming

do you have a stock car? whats done to it? most of the time as long as your motor is not ported, the pfc can be reset and it will let your car run.

this past weekend my car's map sensor stopped working, and the car felt like it was gunna die, i managed to get it home and when i checked the commander the boost was at +.25 and stayed there even when i cranked it. the computer was pouring fuel into the motor as if i had +.25 of boost. so it didnt start

as far as your battery.... if it was drained it might have a hard time storing power, or you might have a draw somewhere that is draining your battery, bring it to an auto supply shop and have them fully charge the battery.

Jumping the car could cause an electrical surge, as suggested by rynberg. But I too think it sounds quite fishy.

The Fd's running a HKS T04s, i was using a greedy injector driver control, Apexi AFR, Greddy Rubic III controller ect, So the FD went in for the change over to the PFC, she's parked up at the mo on charge, so i havnt started it up yet, all they told me was there maping had been lost and is now on the base map????It just seems strange that the GOOD battery is flat and the lost mapping?coincidence? Has mentioned they are blaming the PFC, but saying that what i can gather, they went to the fd yesterday when the trailer arrived and only notticed it then? so ime not certain if they had to jump it then or not, they are getting back to me today,
