Loseing oil question?

I changed my oil about a month ago. It has about 2000 miles on it now. I check the oil once and awhile.

Last night I was driving and my oil light went on and off. I was like a **** and turned around and went home.

I looked it up on the forum last nigt and found that our oil senders go bad pretty easily. I thought that may be the problem but my car only has 15,000 original miles.

This morning I checked it and it was like half a quart or more low.

Is this something to worry about?? I know we burn oil but is that alot? Ihavent checked it in a while so I could have slowly been losing it. Never ever see oil laying on the ground and I always check for that.

Is thier something to look for to see if their is a problem.

I am running Castrol GTX I think 5w 30. What ever the manual says. Thanks

Jerry

Yes the LIGHT is for oil LEVEL as far as I know the LEVEL sensor is very reliable BUT the PRESSURE sender is quite prone to failure.
The Oil Metering pump (OMP) sould inject oil (from the sump) into the rotor chambers at the rate of 1qt in 750<>1000mi depending on how hard you drive. The turbo oil seals are also prone to failure and can significantly increase oil consumption - Check inside your intercooler piping for excess oil - a light coating is OK, a Puddle in the bottom of the Intercooler indicates Bad seals on the Compressor side of the turbos. another indicator of a leaky secondary turbo is oil in the Charge Relief Valve discharge hose leaking into the AIRBOX
My Turbos currently leak enough to increase my oil consumption to 1qt/350mi.

I would never go 500 miles without ceckin the oil much less 2000, I would just add more oil and pay more attention to it from now on. At the very least a FD will burn a quart between oil changes.

i don't see why you need to bump the thread since your questions have been answered.

the OMP will burn oil. I say 1 quart per oil change is about right. it depends on your sort of driving. Also, i wouldn't use 5W-30 That is too thin. You have to use at least 10W-30. I use 20W-50

Don't forgett that the diff between the LOW and FULL marks on the dipstick = approx1.6 quarts (1.5L) not 1qt as on most US cars
