lose clutch on hotter days
lose clutch on hotter days
Hi,
Pretty much bone stock 93, when it is in traffic on a warm or hot day, I slowly lose stroke in the clutch pedal till I barely
Have enough to disengage it fully, sometimes, if its hot enough, I lose the ability to disengage the clutch entirely.
Acts just like the brake fluid in the clutch cyl is boiling, when I get moving again I get all my pedal feel back
I did bleed it out and replace the fluid in the clutch cyl, but that didn’t help, its NOT leaking.
Is there anything else I can do other than switch to DOT5? Which I really don’t want to pull apart
a low miles untouched original brake system to do.
Thanks
Keith

If you still have the soft OEM clutch line be sure to replace it with a good stainless version. In fact I might try that first, then re-bleed the system and see what you get.

replacing the slave is just precautionary. if the master is being replaced then just do the slave as well. they're not expensive and you have to bleed the system anyway. i do agree with you though. if the slave was a problem then he would have fluid leaking. 99% chance his entire problem is the master.

thanks for the ideas, I hadnt thought about the master being the problem... nothing is leaking but everything is original and none of its is getting any younger!
Ill try replacing that hose, its original too... then maybe the master. It does seem to be getting worse, today wasnt that hot and I was losing some of the pedal when I came to a stop.
Thanks

Just do all 3 at the same time. If you replace 1 thing at a time then you're having to bleed the system and waste time and brake fluid. Do all 3 once, bleed it once, fix your problem once....

Yep. It's common for the master cylinder to have an internal leak so you build pressure then that pressure leaks back into the reservoir. No external leak but a loss of hydraulic pressure going to the slave cylinder.
Just replace the master, slave, and the rubber hose all at the same time. DOT3 fluid. If one component is weak the others will fail in short order, especially when you raise hydraulic pressure by replacing a failing component with a newer one.
And, yes, stainless braided clutch line - Banzai Racing and some other places have them, they are well worth it.
