one question? how the hell did it stay there and not get blown through your turbo and out the exhaust or at least get stopped at your cats?!??!?!
those arent exactly heavy pieces, i mean rotary exhaust would blow those out the tailpipe and anything more than idle let alone the exhaust port

The night I blew it I'd gone out on a hell-run after installing the new RB dual exhaust system. It was cold out (last January) and in the middle of my second run I noticed a significant loss of power. I was only a couple of miles from home so I headed that way, by the time I got into town the car was barely running, and to make it the 4 blocks or so to my house was excructiating, it kept dying and would NOT idle. But I finally made it back to my drive and was sitting there trying to get it to idle when it went bang bang bang BANG BANG KARUMPH BAM!!

So I *think* the major seal-spitting took place then.

(crosses fingers)

Um...judging by his explanation of that engine's final death throes, I'd venture to say there were probably a lot of pieces that did get blown out the exhaust; those are the stragglers that didn't make it.

When you remove those 10mm bolts you need to let them soak in something like WD40, then take something like a punch and hammer and hit the head of the bolt (it helps break up rust down inside). Then use a wrench and tap it with a hammer or hit it real hard with your hand (easier with the hammer) to break them loose. Those bolts will prob be a bitch to get off and if you dont do it the way I just mentined you'll probably end up ripping the heads off them.

That’s a great idea to pass along SPO. Try the aerokroil stuff it comes in a obnoxious orange can and works very well to get into those badly scales heat cycled bolts. If I remember correctly it is a little higher prices for volume than most things we buy, but IMO it is worth it, and you may just save yourself the trouble of removing a broken shank or two. Spray it on and let it sit for a while to really let it get into the threads.

This has a picture of the what the can looks like if your interested.
