Looking for some advice?

I was looking into buying an FD, but have many concerns. Everyone says that the engine won't last long. I have also heard that everyone drives the 7 hard, yet I don't plan on it. Does this mean that if I don't drive it hard that it will last like a piston engine would? Also, has anyone bought an FD outside of California... is it hard to get it CARB certified with mods? Finally, on another post in the SALES/WANTED section someone got a carfax report for free(?)... I thought they needed to be payed for. Are there free sities?

Thanks for the help.

your gonna need to drive your fd hard to keep it alive (it prevents carbon build up) but your gonna also need to take extra measures to keep it healthy too like poping your hood to let it cool down and let it turbo time for at least 2 mins if not 5 mins (especially after hard runs) also change the oil about every 500 to 1000 miles and the oil filter about every 1000 miles. the engine life is just about as long if not longer the a piston engine if you dont over boost it and if you take care of it. like i said, you gotta treat it a little differently then a piston engine, its kinda like being a obsessive compulsive. (like turbo timing) just have enuf money for a new engine (about 3-6 grand) and you should be fine.

P.S. even with a new engine, it should cost less then a new civic!

Why do you say you won't be driving it hard? If that's the case, why get a PURE sports car? Anyway, you will not be able to resist driving it hard if you get one.

It is easy to pass CA emissions with a stock car. You will still pass the sniffer test with an intake, intercooler, downpipe, and catback. You might fail the visual though (there are ways around this...).

Carfax is not free. Someone may have posted their email and pass for you to use.

If you want some good info, besides checking out this site, check out both of these sites:

http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobinette/
http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/index.html

And before you ask any other questions here, look at the upper right of the screen. You will find a search button. Use it. Most of the people on here are helpful, but "old timers" get sick of answering the same questions over and over. Your questions are posted at least once a day for example.

In addition, if you are not the kind of person who is willing to spend a lot of time (and money) maintaining a car, then don't buy a 3rd gen RX-7. This is not a Honda and will not tolerate neglect AT ALL. That said, good luck.
