Looking at purchasing this FD, I'd love opinions.

Whats up everyone this is my first post but I have been reading this place for a while now. Until tonight i have been a "lurker" on this board and a few others. I have been looking for an FD to pop up for sale in my town for some time now and one finally has. Im in Pittsburgh PA and its pretty tough to find one of these cars on the street let alone for sale, but I finally have. The car is at www.sevenspeed.com/forsale Instead of the Haltech it now has a power fc + commander. other then that everything you see if on the car. He owns sevenspeed which is the only rx7 specialty place in Pittsburgh or its surroundings.(at least to my knowledge) Anyway he wants 22,000 witht he wheels and 20,050 without. I saw the car in person and it looks good. The tires on the 18's will need replacing real soon both front and rear. fronts are 18x8.5 and backs are 18x9.5.

Anyway just wanted to introduce myself and see if you guys could give me your opinions.

There may ever be someone on this board who has seen this car in person and/or knows george (the seller).

Let me know what you think.

Jeff

Sorry forget to mention the engine has 1k on it but the chassis has 95k+ miles on it.

Thanks,
Jeff

Doesn't seem to have very many mods. Price is crazy high in my opinion and I've had a several FDs.

Im with jeff, it would need to have many more mods and be in very very good condition to justify that price, especially for a 93.

I am going to say the same thing. I would pay maybe $17,000 tops, it has a new paint job and new rebuilt motor, but you can pick up almost the same thing with just a couple of less mods for 14-17K range. But if there is a serious drought of FD's in a large area, and you want something totally rebuilt... It has like what 3-4 power mods? If you want to make the car much faster, your looking at about another 3-5K just to support more power moding, fuel system, wastegate, intercooler, competition radiator. It will add up really quick on top of that 20K, depending on what you want to do.

Those are my thoughts also. I thought it was a bit high for what it had. The seller said he would not budge on the price so I really don't know what to do. There aren't any FD's for sale anywhere near me, and there hasn't been for over 2 months.

On another note if anyone knows someone selling a FD in ohio, wv, nj, ny or anywhere else within reasonabe distance of Pittsburgh please let me know. The reason I don't want to buy something far away is that I want to see the car before purchasing due to these cars age, and the fact that condition can easily make thousands of dollars in price differences.

Another thing beggers can't be choosers but almost 100k on chassis for that much money is a bit much for me. I'm gonna try to bargain, but he said he would not budge before.

Thanks for the quick replies!

Thanks,
Jeff

A 1993 nearing on 100,000 on the chassis with a new engine is not worth more than 20,000 unless it has heavy modifications, which this one is lacking. I would say the car is worth from 16,500 - 17,500 without wheels.

You haven't been looking hard enough! Seriously, there arn't many, but they are around. I can think of a couple cars listed in the for sale section right now that are within a 6 hour drive.
BTW, Most of the ones I looked at were in VA or MD.
PM me, there was one car not too far away that I didn't get around to looking at. Not sure if it's still for sale, but I'll give you the contact info.

Another thing, Jeff, if your looking for a Fd, check in the MD/VA area. There must be like 30 of them onsale in the general area... if your willing to make the 2 hour drive to md.

The one you're looking at isn't worth that money with the chasis milage. It will soon need bushings, rubber molding and other expensive items that are worn on high milage cars.

Take your time looking for the one you want, I'm talking many months, and you won't be disappointed in the end.

Remeber if you see cars far away that are close to an Rx7 specialist - you could pay them to inspect it.

Jack

Don't be pressured into buying a car that isn't right for you. I looked for 6 months before finding the right car. It was 1000 miles away. Nice drive home though

Agreed. I waited almost 8 months, and mine was 850 miles away. But for a garaged 93 FD that had 28K miles under its original ****-retentive owner for $17K back in '99, it was well worth the wait, and the driving since then.
