Looking for a previous owner
Looking for a previous owner
I purchased an R1 about six months ago and I have rebuilt it from the ground up. Now that I am nearly done, I am interested to find out the history of the car... The VIN is JM1FD3317PO201666. It appears that the car lost control and hit the rear driver's quarter, then the front - drivers tie rod was broken in the accident. The defining characteristics are; it is black, had two fuel pumps in the tank (mercedes I think - with two separate lines), a tiny toggle switch on the armrest, and was registered in Fremont ('96) and Newark('00), CA (salvage title issued in February, 01). The front was cut off at the struts before I bought it (by the guy I bought it from) so don't let the pictures scare you. Anyone have any history, I'd love to hear it. Pictures are before and after for interest.
Thanks. I have plenty of receipts to show that it's a nice job - and it turned out better than I could imagine. Did I say nearly done? The exhaust is hanging now - just not in the pics.
Re: Quarter panel repair... It's hard to say the cost since most of it was done at the same time. The quarter panel was about 400 (600 Canadian) from Mazda and the shop put about 4 hours of labor into fixing the inner panel plus the cost of paint.

lol. For some reason, more and more FD's are poppin up around here. I think one of the guys in the Mr2 Forums is doing CarFax reports for free in the classifieds section. He did mine a couple weeks ago so I dont know if his 1 month of usage is done or not.

Hey mcf are you around oakville? I was dealing with oakville mazda recently they mentioned there was someone who was rebuilding a '93 RX7 and was in the shop 'quite frequently' picking up various parts. I've got the '99 front end also, expect they are quite rare around here.
Mark, I recognize that VIN. I asked the same question about 1.5yrs ago. Good luck finding the PO
, well the PO that wrecked it.
Looks great
. Did you get it running?

Sandecker: Yep - Oakville and yes it seems I live in the parts area. Jeff - It runs - only enough to get past the government inspection though. I am guessing another two weeks before I can officially call it a successful project. BTW, thanks for all your help.
Here's what it is (other than the visual):
M2 Stage 3 ECU
M2 Medium Intercooler
Custom intake (like the M2)
HKS downpipe
SR Motorsports high flow cat
RB exhaust
4.3 ring and pinion
M2 trailing arms and toe links
Mazda speed short shifter
Gab struts/ eibach springs
AP racing brakes (M2 kit)
Super advan wheels (painted silver)
All the hoses have been changed out (silicone with new solenoids etc. etc.).

MCR, I was just wondering how much you spent for the car and how much did it cost to get it fixed, cause mine was in the same condition and I was just wondering if you got a clip or part by part. thanks
I paid 2,500 for the car. After that, you have to decide whether you want a brand new car or one that runs. I could have put the thing together for aproximately the following:
Front clip (1,700 out of Miami - I think it's still there)
Body panels/ windshield and body work(2,500)
Paint (3000)
Mechanic (50 - 60 hours/ 3,000 or 0 if you do it)
Misc parts and pieces (1,500)
So you could do the whole thing for approximately 8,700 if you do the work (plus the cost of the car), or 11,700 if you have someone else do it.
I chose to go mostly new on anything that gets heat, used on anything else, and did about a third of the work. My total (including the car) is around 22K for a car that is essentially new.

What place in Miami still has the clip. I paid 4500 for my car, but it was a very very lite hit (post pics a little later) The windsheild didnt crack. Suspension is still good, etc. Only thing that happen was the bumper got smashed radiator was broken, hood was damaged but they told me it could be pulled out, screw that. Havent got my car back together yet but almost there, if the place in Miami still has it Ill cancell the clip I fould, for 3800. and get that one. thanks
I can't find the number - but if you go to a local scrapyard they can probably get it for you (that's how I found it). I actually saw it in October '01 and it had been sitting there for over two years (red R1 w/ dual coolers/ no motor). If I find it I will PM you.
Sweet, thanks. My local junk yard place gave me a autodex. It has alot of junkyards across the states, If you could remember the name of the place that would really help me out alot too. Thanks
