Looking to buy a used FD and need info
Hi guys I'm looking to buy an FD from a local guy and here is the info that I got from him over the phone
*1 previous owner
*automatic
*205K
*engine over heated then the engine was replaced by a rebuilt engine from mazda approx. 40K to 50K ago
*original OE turbos
*current owner has owned the car for 6 years
*car hasn't been driven in 2 years
*the car has never been driven in the winter
My question is... should I be looking for something specific when checking out this car? I've looked over threads detailing problem areas with the FD's but seeing how the car hasn't been driven in 2 years should this be a problem?
Also I know with the VW that I've dealt with they are usually marked somewhere on the head or block showing they've been rebuilt does mazda do this too and where would the mark be.

Automatic, 205k miles, original turbos, and has not been driven in two years? Yow.
I would not even consider this car unless you are buying it as a project and really know what you are getting yourself into (which, it would seem from some of your questions, you do not).
You should not pay more than $5k for it in any case.

Yes I'm very new when it come to rotary engines but not new to engine in general so I appreciate all the advice I can get.
My plans for the car is to eventually turn the car into a project after maybe 1 year of use

Wow, your just asking for problems if you ask me. Stock turbos...205K (either way KM or MI). Thats a crazy asking price for that too. Look harder, there are better deals to be had. If I were I would just look around on this site for a few weeks and learn all you can before you do any purchasing...

Hey "wanna_be_rx7_guy," what's up.
Would your location be Newmarket, Ontario !! I am local to you. Where is this car located that you are looking to pick up. I keep track of a lot of the RX-7's that are for sale in our area and have never heard this one. Let us know what happens when you go take a look at it.
Also, please dont give this guy $12,000 for the car from what you have described. There's lots of guys around the GTA who can help you out with a potential car too.
Shoot me a PM if you want.

sorry its not as local as I made it seem. I just got back from looking at the car but I wasn't able to test drive the car but I may at a later date. From what I could tell the body was as good as a 10+ yr old body could get but mechanically I'm a little worried
First when I got to the car the owner already started the car and had been idling for a few mins and after about 10 mins the idle started to slow down and I kept hearing a click? as if the engine was trying to pick up the rev's.
Second the cars engine temp. as I was told by my buddy was over the halfway point and the radiator fan didn't kick in until about 25 mins after I started looking at the car.
