Looking to buy a FD, Eccentric shaft problem

the car is not running at the moment and the owner said the reason is because

"Lost thrust clearance on Eccentric shaft. No air gap, So it has no signal to trigger the spark and fuel timing. With a little work it can run again."

i searched the fd section on that topic but couldnt really find anything related to what he was saying. i was just thinking new motor from japan or rebuild, anyone with some insight?
thanks

No idea what that means but if youre open to swapping the motor, I say go for it. If the body is nice and the price is right buy it up.

is that the only problem? If anything, you can buy it and tear the motor down and see if there is any serious damage.

Lost thrust washer clearance isn't some much a problem with the e-shaft but rather the builder/owner fucked up the engine. It will need a complete tear down to verify everything is still good. assuming that's the only problem. I would factor in a rebuild at the very least.

yeah this doesn't happen unless there's a build mistake. You're looking at somebody's aborted project car that he was tired of dealing with. Budget at least 5k to fix it once you find everything else that's messed up.

yea, i'd assume that if they messed something like that up, they jacked up a lot of other stuff on top of that.

abandoned projects are the worst because you never really know what you're getting yourself into until you start tearing everything down and realize how much of an idiot the PO was.

Remember, you definitely can't see everything because the car is together.

At the very minimum the front cover will have to come off so you can check the thrust bearing and spacer.
