Looking to buy a 3rd geb BUT????

I am looking a 3rd gen rx7 thats a pretty good deal but it doesnt run. The owner says its only got blown turbos? If thats the only case how much would it cost to get them rebuilt or to get new ones? Or would it be easier just to upgrade from there? Also if the turbos are blown and car was run will that hurt the motor any? Thanks guys sorry for the questions newb

If it has blown turbos, the engine should run still.

^yeah, run like crap

you also have to think though, how did the turbos blow?

it could have been a chipped/broken apex seal that shot out the exhaust destroyin the turbine....then you have an engine problem and turbo problem

get a compression test to determine if the engine is actually still good

you can get the turbos rebuilt from various places for around a grand, but that's if the parts are reusable, in a rebuild pretty much only seals and gaskets are replaced. so if you have a screwed turbine it's going to cost more

how much is he asking? give us some more details so we can determine if it's good for you

mileage/year/model (R1, touring, PEP), stick, auto, give us a breakdown

There asking 7k it has 80k miiles on it. Also if its only the turbos blown and i can replace them how reliable are these motors? I read all about the reliable upgrades to do and the over heating problems some of them have but i would be using it as my daily driver and also on the weekends i travel about 60 miles to high way?

i think we need to introduce the newbie "required post count" to like 25 or something (before they can start new threads). even with the 5 minimum post count deal, we still get the same questions in here three times a week..

"looking to buy an FD. it is _______. it costs _____. should i buy it?"

lol

Agreed. Or, at a minimum, make a prompt (for newbs) that asks: "have you utilized the search function before posting a question?", and also "have you read the frequently asked questions (FAQ) sticky at the top of this forum..."

I just wished guys would SEARCH before they post. Once that is done, the rest is easy and the OP will get the help he/she needs.

ok, off my soap box.

7k isn't that bad.....but i def wouldn't use it as a daily driver until i've been in and out of that car

also, you'd be putting mad miles on a somewhat low mileage car.....not my thing

get a fricken geo metro as your daily and save some pennies for an FD

Geo Metro

What I meant was, if the engine is fine, it should idle smooth and be drivable even with bad turbos.

Sweet Jesus.

I think the board software should be modified to automatically delete posts with the word 'reliable' if the poster has a thread count less than 100.

There is literally no dumber question that you could have asked about an FD.

safest thing to do, is to get a daily driver and have this car on the side. you do not want to depend on it to get you from point A to point B. some guys do it, but since you're new to rotaries i would not recommend it at all. get yourself a cheap econobox that is reliable THEN get yourself an FD. its a sports car that throws practicality, economy, and luxury (as in driving comfort etc) out the window. its primary purpose? to thrill and to tear up the opposition.

please read the FAQs, there is a wealth of information that will help you make your decision.
