very very good idea
that's what I did
that way you can have the motor rebuilt the way you want it and know who did it and what was done and feel much better about it since you know the car.
Trust me it is a pain in the *** to have it in the shop and wait for it to be finished though.

are they really going for 10k with a blown motor?
damn I got a good deal hahaha

good luck man

How much did you pay for your Blown engine RX7. I'm thinking 7000 is good

well the car came with everything on my mods list and the turbos and transmission were both rebuilt 20k ago, brand new a/c, brand new tires, and clutch had been replaced and has about a year and a half left on it if I take care of it.
All I have done is the tail light conversion and got the efini badges.
With all of that stuff and the guy gave me the 2 oil coolers from a r1 to have installed and a few other things. I got it for $7,350 including shipping which was a 3 hour drive for him to have it towed since it didn't run.
now I am having a streetported motor put in for 4K with the 2 oil coolers and all hoses changed out. then after that I am getting a paint job and I already ordered a new style front bumper. ALso powdercoating my wheels. that will be a little over 2k total with new style bumper and new turn lamps and color change to a darker red.
so total I am spending $13,500 and I will have a TOTALLY brand new car except for suspension and a little wear on the inside that I can clean up myself.
It will be very fast and look sweet also for a very cheap price I think!
I have heard of people buying ones with original everything and 80k miles for 16K so I am VERY happy with the deal I got.
I plan on getting wider tires in the back when they get worn out, fuel pump, midpipe, and boost controller at the start of 2003 when I have some more money saved up from work and I get my huge tax return!
after that the pfc, intercooler, wheels, single turbo, moonroof
so its a never ending project
I hope the 7 is good to me cause I will be good to it

Its a long time before between when you get the car and get it running. I dont know if it is any cheaper but you get a car that you know has a good eengine and hasnt been abused. It only had 68,00 on the chasiss. I tihnk i got a deal. Hope this help. Marc

It's cheaper ... I'll vouch for that. But the waiting is the killer. Patience is something you better start stockpiling.

i would be afraid to buy a car that doesnt run, quastions like "why didnt the guy do teh rebuild himself, is there somethign wrogn with teh frame, suspenshion or anythign else?" it woudl suck to shell out 7-10k and then get the new motor put in and then find out there is somethign majorly worng, or that the whole interior rattles or it just doesnt wanna go straight after 5 alignment jobs. you woudl deffinatelly have to check everythin out THOROUGHLY. and there will always be othere things that you will spend money on that you did not plan for. its not alwasy only the motor.
