looking for advice (fairly simple question)
Ok here's the deal. I have had my car for a little over 2 years and have done only fairly simple mods so far. Mods include HKS dp, HKS Hiper CB, TEIN type HA coilovers, dvd player (gift from a friend), '99 tailights, and Racing Hart C5s (17s). It just seems that nothing has gone right however. I recently blew my motor and had a reman done. I broke in the engine and now when I go WOT it gets "machine gun" like backfire and seems it is holding back power. After driving for a bit, when I go into idle, the rpm gauge drops below 500rpms and comes about as close as it can to dieing without actually doing so. Could new plugs and wires be the answer? Maybe a PFC? I am fairly new to rotaries, so I don't want to end up trying to fix something on my own and making the problem worse. Anything specific I can look for that would be easy to spot? (already checked the map sensor..everything seems to be connected correctly) Thanks a lot guys!

Sounds to me like your main engine ground has come off.
Check the ground strap that comes off the UIM on the passenger side.
I would also reccomend replacing it with a 4 guage strap from your local auto parts store.
You can add some to the block and that helps alot aswell
Put in a new set of plugs also.
You'll be fine.

I looked around the engine bay for any unconnected grounds and found one near the driver side strut bar ends. It was just haning there with the metal loop portion attached to nothing. I connected to the chasis and bolted it down. I noticed that it didn't nearly backfire as much as before, almost completely gone! However, it did still backfire a tad in higher rpms and I get hesitation above 4800rpms. Feels like fuel cut but I am not sure. Maybe adding new plugs, wires and the hyper ground wires would help? Anyone have experience with the hyperground wires? Thanks!

I would start with new plugs first. If you haven't changed your O2 sensor in a while, now would be a good time.
As far as the grounds, you can make your own cheaper than the kits that are out there. I know some people don't want to mess with making their own so they grab the kits, and they do work well. Either what you go, more grounding can only help.

edit: damn I suck at keeping things on-topic. I say check the plugs or at least ensure they're properly gapped. Sorry 'bout the off-topic post.
