Looking at a 93 Touring model, is it a good deal? ($17,500)

Alright, its red with tan leather interior. Bose/power moon roof/power everything else as far as I can tell. One owner (adult) never raced. 98k on car, 30k on turbos and 3k on engine and clutch. Everything looks really clean from the pictures. He is asking $17,500. I think this sounds a little high, www.kbb.com says its worth about $12,230, but that sounds too low.

Any suggestions on what I should offer him for it?

Thanks,
-Charlie

very high for almost 100K car - red was the most popular color, so he doesn't even get points there. I wouldn't pay more than about 15K, if that (depending on condition - 15 would be for a really nice one with that many miles and no mods).

maybe 17K if it was in perfect shape and a '94 or '95.

Forgot to mention that it has no mods. Yeah, I think 15k sounds like a better price. Anyone else have an opinion?

Thanks,

don't think it's too high, maybe can go down to 16k ish. you're getting a new engine, which is like 5k. so let's say the car was 98k original engine, what would you pay for it? add 5k to that. any warranty on the engine?

The question is, will you pay $17k for the car? I'm sure he'll sell it for that amount to someone, whether it's you or not.

If you want an FD, better get what you can because they are getting rarer every day.

Also, talk to him about the replacement/rebuilt engine. It may still be under warranty which would be another bonus for you.

Yes, make sure he has paper work. I got my FD 4 years ago w/ a newer engine for 16.5k, had 85k on body. Bought it out of D.C. area. Are the seats worn? Is the trim peeling? Does CD player skip? Did he have a tie wrap (vacuum line replacement) done? If not, count on an extra $500 from the get go. I'd say $15.5k max, but just my opinion.
Good luck!

Depending on the condition of the rest of the car, I would try to bargain it down to $16k. If the paint and interior is nice then its a good deal, but not that many 100k mile cars out there have nice paint, all depends on how it was treated. Also check the compression on the engine, rebuilds vary in quality and if it checks out with perfect 8.5s, thats a BIG plus. How you bargain I guess depends on how badly you want one. If you wait around long enough you can find a better deal, but that could be a year. Same goes for him, if he waits around long enough he'll eventually sell it at that price...
