$300 for 99s is a good price. I would take em for that much. Where did you find them?

You serious? lol.... They virtually look the same. I guess most people on this forum go to up eachother's FD's and say hey man I see you have authentic 99 spec tail lights.. That is super JDM goodness

Tail lights are not a performance modification. At least the 99 spec bumper has a cooling benefit. Tail Lights are for viewing. If they look good, who really cares if they are converted or authentic?

Trust me, I would bitch slap someone if they told me that I "cheaped" out on my build because I didn't spend $400 on tail-lights. Then I would ask to see under the hood of their ride so I could find the first cheap **** move and ridicule their stupid-***.

Budget cuts sometimes have to be made. I would rather make them on non-performance and non-reliability mods such as this.

We need people like MAXFC3S otherwise stores like Neimen Marcus or should I say, "needless markup" would go out of business.

I went with making my own 99's as well and was very pleased with the results. It is not just that you are saving $250.00 DIY, it is the process that I personally, gain great joy from. Sure, I could shell out the money to buy the authentic lights but I would gain no real satisfaction from the ordeal, the time invested and the final product. (obviously if you do a **** job, you do a **** job)

And Max --- you must be mistaken trying to bash the FC's as if the FD is a more expensive, more superior vehicle --- keep in mind that most FD's these days are selling for less than a 2000 civic and that a large portion of FD owners are 16-20 year old's now.

I am not a proponent for advocating "ricing" out cars, but doing something like a 99' tail light conversion, in my opinion, does not qualify as such.

When the issue is being pure. Why buy a Cobra when you can get a "Kit" version

Now I'm kind of upset.

Are my tails authentic '99 tails? I like them, regardless, so I'm not going to go out and BUY authentic ones if they are not..

But I just want to know..

I might be way off with this, however, aren't the markings on the US model lights different from the markings on the JDM?
I believe that the US/Canada models have "DOT" on them, but I don't think the JDM do, they have some other mark on...
If I'm way off, pardon the intrusion.
The "markings" I'm referring to are those on the clear cover that you can kind of see in the first of the two pics

well just from the pics they look converted, but in person I could tell you for sure. In the pics the turn signal looks to be spaced to far and up a little to high. It needs to be closer to the edge of the amber lens when converted. Also an easy way to tell if they are "real" is to see if the circles are raised about 1mm or so from the lens they sit on. yeah looking at them again . Those are not.

Awwwww...

Oh well. I'm not about to spend money to buy the authentic ones. I like the way they look.

Sorry to revive an old thread but where is the cheapest place to buy spec. '99 tail lights?

Also, is there a DIY thread on how to convert them yourself? I searched and couldn't find one.

Thanks in advance.

Personally.. I just sent mine to sevenlust and had him do the conversion for me. He does a great job and polishes the lights to make them look new...

Yeah, I live in Canada so the shipping would most likely be over $100. Because of this, I'm looking at doing the DIY myself.

I just found the link for anyone else who wants it: http://www.jsott.com/rx-7/lights/index.html

You cannot tell the difference when done properly.

Here are mine. Guess if they are $500.00 like the ones you'd order online or done by someone?

I'd really like to see if you can tell the difference......

I think this thread shows clearly why OEM 99 tails are better than conversions.

If you're on a budget and want the look of 99's, then yes the conversion is best for you but unless you have it done professional and it takes minutes and minutes of inspection to find a flaw, i think OEM is the way to go.

I have the OEM and im glad i bought them.

Why does this justify OEM being better?

If it takes a while to see if they are real or not, doesn't that make them a pretty good replica?

I think you missed the key word in my post.

"UNLESS"

Just to add to that, i find it funny how we're starting to act like cheap bastards. Its bad enough most of the cars on the road are beat to **** from uneducated owners/past owners.

Lets not make the car look shitty with shitty parts.

+1 for OEM. Might as well get them while its available.

Right, sorry, I must've midread your first post.

I just find that $450 it pretty steep for OEM '99 tail lights.
