their pretty good. But I still think no conversion can imitate the awesome look of the genuine 99 spec tails. You don't realize it but their is actually depth in the bulb housings and the circles protrude about 1.5mm.

how could "no conversion" imitate something different? wouldn't "no conversion" mean they are left unchanged?

haha, your right, what I wrote doesn't make sense. I was trying to say that "i don't think a conversion can truly imitate genuine taillights"

True
BUT.....
spending $40 on supplies versus $500 on REAL 99 lights is a good case for the "converson"

I don't see why someone would pay $300 and up price tag for authentic taillights when you can do it for $50 and virtually looks the same

well I can understand why someone would not want to pay the money for the factory "99" version, but if I am being honest here they look a bit of a mess. Trust me, I have done so many of these over the years I can pick them apart, but I will not. I just want to offer up a little advice for your next conversion. I know this is your first ones converted so there will be mistakes. Anyhow look, the circles are not spaced correctly shown in white. also what is the stuff high lighted around the circle I pointed out in the picture in black? Is it residue from the masking you used? also It looks like you had quite a bit of bleed through around your circles. these are just a few things I noticed when viewing the pics you posted. It could be bad pics and they may be perfect but from what I am seeing they are far from good. like I said, it could be bad pics but until I see better pics this is what I am getting. Is it just me? Anyway nice to see you tried it yourself your next one will be better.

well i know they are both and all spaced equally because both my father and i measured accurately and accordingly to each light and took our time doing them, everything measured perfect and are both identical, from what your getting from the pics is simply because they came from my phone camera and my phone sucks!! there is nothing highlighted that is the glare from the lights in my house, again picture quality stinks, i'll see if i cant get my friend over the house one weekend and take better ones with his camera.

also i would like to thank everyone who likes the way they came out and i would advise to anyone and everyone wanting 99 spec tails, to just spend 20 bucks like i did and do em yourself, its not worth the $300+ price tag them come with plus i enjoyed doing them, it was fun plus with these there are infinite amount of styles you can do to really personalize your FD, i was going to but i felt the traditional look fits my car better... thanks again

ok, not bashing your efforts here just want to make myself clear to what I was seeing on my computer. The glare, yes, I get that, but it is not what I was pointing out or asking about. In this picture it is the ring around your new circle, what is it? is it something from the masking left over? it is greyish in your pic, I tried to point to it. I have gotten it on mine when I have converted but I cleaned them off. you say the spacing is good, but from what I am seeing it cant be. I know phone cameras suck but I would be surprised if they are indeed equal just from seeing these pics. they look like a few mm off from eachother but maybe its your phone I will wait for better pics before I say anything more. again not bashing you for your efforts just trying to help you out.

I mean ya I can understand saving money. But I have seen both and think the money is worth it because they just don't look the same IMO. They look the same in that their are 2 brake light circles and 1 turn signal circle. But the color, depth, crispness is not the same. But if you don't care about that, then hell ya save the money.

the turns are spaced further away, but other than that, they look alright.

John(Seven Lust) has converted many sets of taillights for me at an extremely good price. I would highly recommend him to anyone thinking about the conversion I had a feedback thread posted in the good guy section for him but I see the mod's have deleted it. Here is another one though showing pictures of his work for reference: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ght=seven+lust

I have had OEM 96+ taillights and converted 96+ taillights(by John) and I would chose the converted ones any day of the week. There is not really a visual difference. Here are a couple more of John's(Seven Lust) work:

This picture was taken to show how he made a severely scratched set of taillights look new again:

This one shows the even circles and OEM looking texture that he uses:

Because the authentic is better. Because we don't want to get our hands dirty. Because we can afford it. because we don't want to put junk in our cars. FD is something you don't want to rice up. You must've thought you were in the FC section.
