Look what happen to my turbo's!!

Here are some pics to what happen to my new 99 spec turbo's (secondary compressor housing)a couple of months ago. Turbo's werent damaged, thank god! I still haven't figured out why my secondary turbo's won't kick in above 4500 rpm. I have new silicone vacuum lines and I replaced the wastegate/pre-control solenoids and the turbo control solenoid (the one on top of the air control valve). I made sure all the lines to and from the turbo control solenoids don't have slits through it. Can the problem be the turbo control solenoid that controls the boost side of the turbo control actuator.(turbo control actuator is in good working condition) or is the ecu or wiring to the ecu to the turbo control solenoid. what does happen if one turbo control solenoid goes bad. does the turbo control actuator not operate thus preventing the second turbocharger from operating.

also i forgot to mention how the turbo's ended up like this. I was told that when I hit over 4500 rpm the charge control valve would open to combine both primary and secondary boost but since the secodary wasn't producing any boost, the primary boost would just vent out throught the second turbo then through the intake. I guess heat melted whatever was in the compressor housing somehow or another. . If you notice from the stock compressor housings and compare it to the 99 spec ones, there is some type plastic coating in it and thats what melted.

That looks like the abradable seals abrading. I don't see any melted stuff, but it's kind of hard to read texture in a picture like that. Someone with 99specs should be able to chime in whether that's normal or not.

c-clip on actuator

I've got 99's on my car (bought brand new). Had a similar problem in that the secondary turbo wasn't coming online. Almost like the primary was trying to pick up the slack. Now maybe you should have noticed since you've got the turbos off but the reasoning behind my problem was that the c-clip holding the actuator rod to the exhaust valve door had come off. This prevent the exhaust flow into the 2nd turbo causing no boost at higher rpm's. Check that c-clip, may be as simple as that??
Good luck.

Yeah, that's one of the first things i checked and the clip was there. thanks

also the compressor housing is not suppose to be like that. I sent them back and the place i got it from said the turbo wasn't damaged, it just needed a new compressor housing but 99 spec compressor housings are not sold seperately so they just put the stock compressor housing in.

isn't the difference from the two spec compressors just the wheels and the materials?

What did you to resolve the issue? I have had the same problem for over 18-months now. I have looked at every possibilty. Wish I had gone single conversion, or with new stock twins.

Let me know what you find out.

^Check the FAQ thread for links to good troubleshooting info. Or find a local place that can fix the problem for you. PFS is down by you.
