location for RA adapter 2-cycle oil resevoir - show me pics!

i doubt many people on here are running the rotary aviation oil pump adapter, but ...

i was wondering where people have put the resevoir and what resevoir they used.

i was thinking about scavenging a coolant resevoir from the local junk yard. it would be great if i could find something with a low-level indicator. it should be interesting finding room for it in a near-stock engine bay.

I didn't use the RA adapter. I modded my own pump. I used a radiator overflow tank froms Jegs. You can see it in the picture by the fluid filler cap. This was a tight fit and I made a bracket under it that you can't see in the photo. I tried a million different areas to mount a tank and even removed a fender in my quest. Other than getting a smaller dry cell battery or doing the relocate thing would have freed up enough space. To bad too because I have a nice Polaris 2 stroke oil tank with a low oil level sensor in it I really wanted to use!

Here's the link for my tank.

My experience so far is about an inch of oil drop for each full tank of gas. The most I have run with out adding oil has been three tank fulls of gas and the oil tank was still half full at least. I haven't been in any full boost runs yet until I get fully boke in and get a feel for any over boost creep issues. I know full throttle runs kick up the omp alot so I feel safe so far, but I check almost every time I drive any distance in case I have developed a leak or something. Can't be to careful!

As far as the picture goes I can't circule it now, but you can see it by the upper right corner of the air box, in front of the air pump. It has a radiator cap on it and is the cap closest to the front of the picture.

oil consumption is generally 1/100 of the gas consumed according to rotary aviation.

that's kind off a weird location, but as long as it works, whatever.

i think a resevoir from a scooter or snowmobile would be perfect if i can find the right one.

It will be intresting to see what you come up with. Like I said with out a battery relocate..$$ or a new smaller dry cell battery to free up room I had few choices. I guess I could have done the ast elimation mod and used that space. I think it serves a purpose and mazda thought it was nessesary. Plenty of people don't have them and I guess they don't have problems. I run fine with my set up here in NC so I don't think I will remove mine. I took what the engine bay and my set up allowed which wasn't much. I had spent alot of money on my own rebuild, the intercooler, y-pipe, ecu, etc. Cost was a big consideration at the end of a year and a half of waiting. I just wanted my car running again.

yeah, i'm bidding on a polaris resevoir with a low level switch that looks pretty small and "nimble". if that doesn't work i'll put a resevoir where my ast used to be.

I'll try to post a pic of my first tank. It's an odd shape, but with the engine out for over a year and I thought It would fit pretty easily when I bought it. I was wrong! If I remember right I only paid $10 for the tank anyways and may end up using it one of these days.

mono4lamar ,

I'm not sure what your asking? A kit was not used. I just bought some parts at Lowes, then drilled and tapped the OMP. I made a block off plate to keep the two stroke oil seperated from the engine oil sorce at the front cover. I cut a gasket, added an oring some sealent and a hose to the tank. Then I prayed it wasn't going to leak. So far so good. I plan on a write up after I'm sure its a good reliable mod. There are more details of course, but then that thread would be here without pics etc.

I want to say I wasn't the first to do this Mod and I'm not taking credit for the idea. Guys before me have modded the omp, just do a search.

so, how is you oil pump driven? is it still driven by the gear/shaft under the front cover?

the RA kit has a shaft through it that keeps your omp driven.

here is the tank i'm bidding on. 5 dollars and less than a day to go, plus i'm the only bidder. it probably won't fit anywhere even with relocations, but it's worth a shot.

Thats really funny, because I tried to use the exact same tank which is impossible without the mods I mentioned before.

As for that thread link I had been watching it too. I like the idea that my mod has no problems with clearence. No adapter and was way cheaper too. Nothing was changed as far as the stock pump except I threaded in a tubing nipple for the oil feed line. Maybe I will get my thread started about the whole deal soon.

I will try and get it up tomorrow night if I have time. I am still in the process of deciding how well it all works. The front cover is modded in order to keep the oil pressure about the same. The oil path runs through the omp drive shaft (in the front cover) to a small resevior in the omp, but there is also a small return path through the front cover and back down into the oil pan. In order to maintain proper system pressure I dremeled a little notch for the oil to pass through. There are a bunch of little things to do, but nothing was too hard.

please... the search button is for noobs!

actually i searched and found that thread, it's just that i really wanted to use a plastic resevoir with a low level sensor... and was wondering if there was one people knew would fit/work well.

that's ridiculous that you tried the same resevoir... it looks like it would work... then again, there's nothing in my engine bay but the ac compressor and p/s pump.

I know the feeling. I thought I had the perfect tank with the sensor and all. I just couldn't fit in in my engine bay no matter what I tried. Be sure to mount that tank using the mounting holes as a reference. The fill cap will be at an angle in order for the sensor to work. Good luck and post your final product pictures! How long before you get your engine in?

I used a large AP racing brake fluid reservoir. Too small though, needs to be filled too often and has no low oil warning. was easy to locate though...

I have a custom built 2-stroke oil reservior that friend whipped up real quick but it leaks slightly from the bottom. I ended up ordering the Jegs part that was listed earlier but I need to make a bracket for it before I can use it. I will have to take a picture of my current setup since the layout of my setup won't change with the new reservior.

^^^ sweet! please post pictures of your setup and size relation of the tank to the engine bay im still trying to find out what to order from rotaryaviation. the adapter for the manual pump or electronic. can someone specify? this is driving me nuts that they would list both of these and not write (stock) next to one of them!

what? there's nothing wrong with the website. if you have an electronic pump, get the electronic adapter. it's that simple. if you have a stock ecu, then chances are you have a stock electric omp.
