little help with smoking problem????

I have a problem with my car smoking profusely. Everytime i basically start it up, or come to a stoplight I get ENGULFED in a cloud of blue smoke. I have just rebuilt my engine and put on a set of BNR stage 3's.. Is this the typical problem of them smoking like that?? I find it hard to belive it just happens when i start up and run at idle and then decell and come to a stoplight, but I'm open for suggestions. I am only running 6lbs of boost and have only 400 miles on new engine. I have a base map in my pfc currently.. Could it be i need a different map??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Gil

That's what was going on with a buddy of mine's BNR Stage 3 set. The primary turbo was filled with oil and the set had to be rebuilt using parts from another set of turbos.

Hopefully yours isn't as bad. How new is your set of BNR's?

The turbos were built and i recieved them on 4/15/03. However they sat untill 9/14-25/03 until my car was finished and up and running. Please GOD tell me they do not have to be rebuilt. They seem to be spooling/pulling awesome.
Thanks

BNR didn't have the smoking problem fixed at that time. Contact BNR and see about getting it fixed. I don't know what he ended up doing to completely fix the smoking problem since the updated banjo bolts didn't work for everyone.

Ok, but you definately think, or conclude that this problem is happening because of the turbos???

Yep, that's what was happening to most people with the first round of the turbos. They were fine while "in motion", but idling or startup they created the "Spy Hunter Smoke Screen".

k... im having the same problem, but this is on a stock turbo. I installed my turbo a while back, and when i boost it doesnt smoke. But if i run hard and come to a stop light, i will see white/blue smoke. And then it dissapears.

I smell oil and not coolant. I check for shaft play and its all good. No bubble in the radiator neck. No leak around the turbo.

Where is the oil coming from? did i install something uncorrectly?

heh

Yeah I'm having the exact same problem, I figured it was the turbos, but I'm just not sure, mine are stock with 64k. And they do have oil all over them, and I was thinkin about getting a rebuild kit but from everything I have read baout it, it is a really bad idea. I just want to knwo why there is soo much oil in the turbo, if it really is the turbo. becasue if I run it for a while, the smoke clears after acouple of minutes, but then it comes back and the engie starts to die.

hahaha... i guess we are all in the same boat!! and no one here can help??

yeah... mine smokes a couple second after i decelerate/let of the gas after boosting... so its definitely caused by the turbo. No oil in the y pipe and in the intake turbo.

Xeros: if there is oil in the turbo then it's time to get a new set. But mine is leaking from somewhere else!?! Someone mention to install a catch tank from v.hose of the oil neck and plug the UIM, but no such luck.

Did you guys took out the turbo and put them back and then start leaking oil OR it was all fine and then started leaking oil all of a sudden??

Yeah mine has been smokey since I first got it to run. A new set is about 3k, so I might as well go with a singl turbo setup. But hat is also expensive. So, I'm not sure what to do, I was gunna rebuild them, buutttttttttttt, I hear a lot of bad things about it.

NEw engine with 400 miles. Are you taking the time to break in the motor and staying off boost?

I had the same symptoms (smoke at
idle ). My turbos were rebuilt 20k
miles ago and boosted fine.
I was about to replace the engine, thinking the oil seals were
shot.
As a last resort, I replaced the turbos with a low
mileage set, I bought a couple years
ago.
No more smoke !
I was very close to yanking my 20k
mi. re-man.

perhaps your oil lines have a leak?

if i understand correctly, a leak in the oil lines means that oil must come out of the turbo line, no? there is no oil dripin in the engine bay, near the turbo. not that i can see it anyway, but it usually leaves a mark, but not this one so i assume no leak.

the oil return lines are all tight... can it leaked from the oil line going into the turbo?? where is that diagram when you need it... hehe

Its probably somewhere small that only gets opened up when the oil preassure is up.

I'm only telling you this fro my experience, as you can see on my sig I had just replaced my engine with a reman; before the replacement I had several small oil leaks. These oil leaks did not leave any puddles on the floor even after over night, I thought it was my turbos leaking since the whole bottom of my car had stains all over. After I replaced my engine there isn't a single oil stain anywhere Which means it wasn't the turbos leaking oil, so I"m assuming it was the engine leaking somewhere. Was never able to pin point where it was coming from exactly.
