Lightest Pulleys ?
Hey all !
Can someone tell me what's the lightest or best pulley set I should get for my FD.
Also for good price
Unorthodox has some nice pulleys but they are to freaking expensive
Thanks in advance, John.

TwinTurbo93, I'm not sure if it is the SS set or not, but it does come with four pulleys. Main, alternator, P/S, and W/P. I'll let you know what I feel though once I get them in.

if you get a quality set i don't think there'd be much difference between them and the absolute lightest unless the materials were different i.e. aluminum vs titanium. but titanium will cost a bit so i'd just look for aluminum in my price range

I carry the Kazama aluminum pulley sets, the alternator pulley has a nice rotary shape.

You don't seem to have the crank pulley right, or I'm maybe bugging out.
I love the rotary shaped alt. pulley, BTW do they come in silver or just in red?

also, I mainly sell 240SX/SR20DET parts, so most RX-7 people don't know my site. but since I am the offical dealer of Kazama, they require me to carry all kinds of their products. Their FD3S parts are newly released and I have a few of them instock.

also, I just came back from Japan, I visited Kazama and various shops in Japan. I have NEVER seen anyone in Japan replacing the crank pulley on ANY car.
It's also not a good idea to underdrive the accessories especially the water pump, you will be flowing less water at idle and this will probably cause problem. Instead, they have aftermarket "Overdrive" water pump pulley for the SR20 and some other cars.
Replacing the crank pulley will also shorten the life of your engine bearings. but correct me if I'm wrong, I don't have a rotary, but that's what happens on cylinder engines. rotaries probably don't have that kind of vibration like a 4cyl does.

Hey Mike I was checking the pulleys on your website and the water pump pulley says is increased size to prevent cavitation,
what it means to prevent cavitation?
Also if the water pump pulley size is increased is the same as the crank pulley to be decrased or underdrived, the water pump will still be turning a bit slower as unerdriving the main pulley, right?

TT93, prevents cavitation means it slows the water pump down, so that at higher RPMS, the water pump is still pushing the water through the system and not just sloshing it around in the area near it. Think of a food chopper thing, when you have it at a slower pace, it makes the fluid flow, but when you crank the thing up real fast..it more or less makes a mess and doesn't make the fluid flow, just chops at it.

So than if you install an underdrived crank pulley (like Jason's on RX7store.net) you it will aslo help prevent cavitation correct me if I'm wrong.

The cavitation problem should only be an issue at high rpms, right? I've always wondered about water pump performance with underdrive pulleys for a street car...i.e. lots of idle and cruise driving. In that case, are you doing more harm than good?

yep, an underdrive main crank pulley ends up turning the water pump slower than a stock one. I've had one on for 4 years with no problems.
