Correct. I've got a Spirit, and the vehicle id no. is stamped into the central bulkhead.

The Spirit R has an additional "numbered" plate riveted to the driver side (US) firewall. The attachment is a JDM I.D. plate. The car that is in question in this thread is most likely NOT a Spirit R.

Certainly do. The RZ'x have that recessed central section - the Spirit BBS versions are filled out, as in the pic you posted.
What is the point of doing all that work, if it is a real Spirit? The Spirit is the model that left the factory. You change the wheels to RZ alloys (?? why??), rip out the dash and replace it with a left hand drive version (loosing the "soft touch" grey interior that is part of the "unique" Spirit interior), remove the Spirit plates, change its identity......... IF this is real, how can you still call it a Spirit?!? Its not.

One thing I noticed from the interior shot is the markings around the temperature control ****. It is the one from the US 93 models. They were changed slightly on the 94's and up. The 93's were thinner lines of red and blue, whereas the 94+ were thicker lines. Now whether or not they were like this in Japan or anywhere else, I dont know. But it makes me wonder?

The Miata wheel would have required me to drill the hub for the clock spring (wrong indexing).
I replaced my stock wheel with a 99 Nardi wheel (no M logo). I had it for a couple of years then saw my current wheel on eBay (3+ years ago). I sold the 99 wheel for what I paid for the Spirit R
I missed out on the shift **** & ebrake handle from Jesse (too slow)
