VA Letting Your RX-7 Sit for a long period of time.

Since most of us, atleast myself, dont use the RX-7 as a daily driver.

What is the longest you have let your RX-7 sit without turning it on?

Secondly, in general with any car. How long should you let a car sit idle without turning it on?

The longest I've let it sit while functional was 5 months, from early spring to late summer.

Though I did have it sitting for almost 2 years before I ever got to drive it.

letting a rotary sit is not good, if possible you should start it and warm it up every 2 weeks or so. if you plan on letting it sit for half a year or more then you should at least drain the coolant out of it. that is radiator AND block drain.

While I was living in Colorado, I would put mine up for ~5 months. Never had an issue with it. Just took care of the battery and made sure the coolant was sufficient for 40below.

Winter time i would do about a full week, sometimes 10 days without starting.

But i keep insurance on it because lately we didnt get any bad winters and there would be some days that are nice so i would take the car out.

Matter of fact saturday is supposed to be nice, ill probably take it out that day.

That would make it, 1 week since start, and 2 weeks since actual driving.

that's pretty much exactly when I last drove mine. Put it away for winter, did some projects, going home this weekend for spring break to put everything back together (hopefully with out problems) so I can bring the car back to school.

most engines i pull apart that have just simple coolant seal failures have calcium deposits from hard water(tap water) built up inside, coolant also coagulates if it is not circulated for periods of time and then becomes acidic and starts to attack aluminum surfaces. i always recommend changing the coolant and using distilled water/coolant once a year, too bad no one ever does.

the cooling system is the most important system on a rotary, it is also the most neglected.
