LED headlight?

I've never done much work with LED's and certainly not with any bright enough for a headlight. But I keep thinking the LED headlights with a cover like the HWL lights would be the ultimate headlight solution.

I think buying something like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Acura-MDX-2014-2015-LED-Headlight-LH-Driver-side-OEM-14-15/331506719266?_trksid=p2054897.c100204.m3164&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140407115239%26meid%3D71bee837fcfe44d0801f2ea3f1ca7203%26pid%3D100204%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D29%26sd%3D321618514789
taking it apart and building some brackets to fit it in an existing enclosure shouldn't be too difficult, but what kind of signal do these need? Anybody researched LED headlights yet?

They usually come with their own driver to power them.

There are several projector lens in that housing, probably too big for the FD. The Corolla LED is probably your best bet, but their light output sucks compare to some premium HID projector like RX350. I think LED headlight still need more time to mature, saw a brand new Lexus with LED headlight the other day, colorful output from far away, but when he pass me up I notice the light coverage is worst than the TSX retrofit in my daily.

Laser would be really cool but it's probably 100 years before DOT will approve it

As crappy as they are, I bet they are still a big upgrade over stock FD. I think my mountain bike LED headlight would even be an upgrade.

Best bet for LED is to get a car headlamp built from the factory and using/mimicking the optics. LED replacement bulbs don't work well at all. Checkout hidplanet for reviews and pictures of how aftermarket ones kind of juat suck.

Yes, but has DOT approved them yet? I know there was some issue that BMW had with that.

That I don't know. But I figure 'sooner than later' applies here. All I know is, a simple fender bender just got a whole lot more expensive.
