Leave AC in or Tear it out with rebuild?

Just wondering what you guys think I should do.

Tear out the ac or leave it in?

RIght now it works fine, just wondering how much of a blockage of cooling it creates against the radiator when you leave it in ?

Will it hurt the value of my FD by taking it out ?

Not enough of a difference to worry about.

Will it hurt the value of my FD by taking it out ?
Yes.

I would never buy a car without AC. In summer it is a necessity and in winter a safety feature (prevents moisture buildup on windows).

For a street car, removing AC is more of a fashion statement than a performance improvement IMHO.

I live in Hawaii where it is pretty hot and humid but, I'd still take it out. it's much easaier to work on your engine with that and P/S out. It also makes your engine bay look alot better. Roll down your windows...

No freeways on my island and the speed limit is 50mph. There are some straight aways where in can open her up, that's when I need to roll up the windows. :P

No creature comforts... pfft not for me. Gotta have my AC, sunroof, and P/S. I want my car fast *but* comfortable, since I own a street car not a race car.

If you lived in Florida, this wouldn't even be an issue. I use my AC all the time!

I rarely use the A/C in my RX7. Actually, IMO, the RX7 is one of the lesser "aero challenged" cars when it comes to driving with the windows down and/or roof open. However, I don't see a reason to remove it unless you are gutting it for a pure track/race car. While we all would like to think our RX7's will only be ours, that's not likely going to be the case. The car will be worth less without the A/C unless you find someone with similar tastes; but why automatically exclude a good portion of your potential buyers right off the bat?

I had to do a bit of fabrication to keep my A/C along with my V-mount, but in the end, it was all worth it. Last summer, I went to two meets where the weather was crazy hot and everyone was complaining how it sucked to drive to the meet with no A/C. But not me! A/C FTW!

Keep it.I went on a trip in the summer in my FD and the a/c does not work(bad leak) and with the windows down i was sweating so bad becuase you do not get hardly any air flow through the car(no sunroof) i really need to fix it but cant trace it down even though it leaks really bad. 1 pound of r134 is gone in like 5 mins. think its my evaporator.

+1 for keeping the a/c.'

i used to try the open window thing myself.
being stuck in rush hour with no wind flow and sitting at exhaust level of most vehicles around me quickly sold me against it.

I would leave it in on any car that isn't stripped for the track. If I had to choose I'd pull the stereo before the A/C.

Don't forget that without A/C you won't have a defroster worth a darn.

Really? My impression was just the opposite. There's sort of a resonance with the windows all the way down that reminds me of being on a plane. Even the shoulder harnesses wants to make noise like a flag in the wind.
Could an open sunroof make a big difference?

Agree 100%. There is simply no good reason to take out the A/C unless it is going to be a track car only.

The sound is not what bothers me. It's how much air affects my face or hinders my driving. I never noticed (or cared) about the sounds, but as some have commented there isn't a lot of air that makes it way into the cockpit. There are some cars out there where it's like a convertible just rolling down the windows..

Maybe I'm crazy, but I deleted my a/c back in the hot texas summer in 2002 and haven't looked back

Also, my FD seems to run much cooler without the condensor and associated components. IIRC on Motorsport Ranch I was able to finish the 30 minute sessions with coolant temps around 105 C whereas previously I had to pit after maybe 20 mins b/c the temps were shooting up towards 110+

If you plan to go with a FMIC and stock twins, you need to seriously consider getting rid of it.
