Leaking Rear Tranny seal-- can I?

Just noticed a leak at the rear transmission seal.
Question is "can I change it without removing the tranny?"

I searched and only saw one mention of this.

Seems like a simple seal to change, if you have a seal puller.
Is it an inexpensive repair for a tranny shop to do?

Thanks for any insights.

You should not need a seal puller. Trans does not have to be removed to do this.

You can usually remove them with a screw driver or something, just pry it out. Just make sure you do not damage the seal seat that is in the transmission.

If you don't want to tackle it yourself, a shop should be able to do it relatively easy.

Thanks! Sounds more doable than I was thinking.

you dont NEED to remove the ppf but trying to work around it may prove more difficult than expected. the time you waste trying to work around it can be spent removing the ppf. save yourself the frustration.

I assume you are referring to the rear seal for the output shaft.
If so:
Place a jack stand under the rear of the trans
Remove the PPF and drive-shaft
Pry out the seal with a large screwdriver
Carefully tap in the new seal
Reassemble it all.

Hey I noticed the other day I also am leaking some trans fluid from my output shaft seal, I don't know if you seen my last post on the transmission fluid page but--

In neutral, engine sound and humming sound. Press in clutch, only engine sound. Let go of clutch. Engine sound and humming sound. Put in 1st and start driving, whining that increases as the revs go up, until about 3k rpm when engine noise is louder than whine.

Thanks for your time.
