Leaking rear hatch questions
I have a leak in either the glass trim or the hatch trim. Every time I wash the car or it rains I get a puddle in my spare tire well.
I know that when I wash the car, the glass trim holds a lot of water; when I open the hatch later water pours out of it. But my old FD did this without any problems, and I don't see how the water gets to my spare tire well without getting anything else wet...
Any idea how to tell which is leaking? Is the glass trim easy to replace, or do I need to take it to a shop?
Thanks

me too.I tough it was the spoiler holes so i removed the spoiler and cut new rubbers for it plus i silicone it down.I over tighten the bolts and my spoiler started to crack."thats sucked" but still i have water issues.
I've posted about this before, and I'm lazy so I'll just copy and paste haha.
Open up your hatch and look under the little plastic trim triangle pieces. There should be one on each side of the car. They are held on by 3 screws. The screw closest to the front of the car should screw into a little white insert thing. Check to see if the rubber seal is still there. If not, try some rtv sealant there.
My car leaked CONSTANTLY back there. I could never figure it out. It would feel up my spare tire area, under the bins, and behind the back of my seats. All of that would be soaked after a good day of rain. I finally came upon a thread about it. So check those little white pieces of plastic that the screw goes into. There should be a black rubber seal/gasket under it. Even if there is a seal still, it might not hurt to go ahead and put rtv on it.
It's hard for me to imagine that those little inserts could be the problem, but I haven't had a drop of water in the car since.

I found on mine, That where the bolts fix through on the spoiler on the outside edge of the hatch, Its double skinned. I removed one bolt at a time and sqirted sealant in the hole generously then put the bolt back in job done. Even though the spoiler is bonded down water gets in and was running between the two skins and filling the spare wheel well. Easy to check, just pour water over the hatch , leave for 20 seconds and just lift the hatch a little bit and look to see if any of your fixing bolts have a water droplet on them. That will be where its getting in between the skins.
Actually the spoiler is not bonded down. There is a foam rubber seal. On mine the seals got hit with paint from someone painting the spoiler, and the foam rubber shrank and started to leak. So after replacing the foam seals, no problems.

The #1 source of water in the rear compartment can be root caused by those screw boses where the triangle pieces are ( said above ). These nylon screw boses should be extraced, clear siliconed and re-installed. Let them set over night and then re-install the screws. Water leaks thru these over time and DIRECTLY into the rear compartment.
