Leaded Gas

I was talking with a co-worker who trix out race bike and he was schooling me on leaded fuel. He informed me that they use it in their bikes. So, why not a 7?

I know what the purpose of having lead in gasoline (extra lubrication)and I know what the reasons are for it not being sold anymore (clogs cat. convtrs).

My question to everyone is... What unintended consicuences may be presented by running it in a 7 w/o a cat? It doesn't affect the O2 sensor... The reason I am tring to find out is because most local municipal airports have 105 leaded on the pump and will sell it to patrons for under $3. That beats the price at 76's for unleaded 100.

Don't use it if you have a cat. Also lead is very toxic that is why it is not used in most fuel anymore.

won't it also coat your O2 sensor? pretty much rendering it useless? or at least not accurate?

seeing that the ECU uses those readings, combined with the fact that lead is toxic, I would say no... use high octane unleaded instead.

one main reason it was used previously was for the valves, which is why the switch was made to hardened valve seats when unleaded hit the scene...

Sorry Rikki... I just have to disagree w/ you on this one and say that it shouldn't be used at all....

okay... off the soapbox... have a nice day and thanks for flying with us...

well... okay... if you put it that way... extra lubrication would be benificial in a race car... then yeah... I personally wouldn't put it in a street driver though...

didn't mean to sound so athoritative (is that even a word?) in that last post...

[edit] work has got me all grumped up at the moment... you know it's bad when it's 8:30AM (in TX right now) and it already feels like Miller time... guess that's why I'm reading the forum... to get away from work for a few... lesson learned... DON'T POST ANGRY! (damn... sounds like a marriage or something )
