Angry Launching auto FD

How do you guys with auto FD's launch? I'm having a hard time at it. I tried powerbraking, but i can only get like ~2,500 rpm, and not much of a launch. Is there a trick to it or something?

Well, it IS sort of an art form.....

Are you powerbraking with the 'hold' button on? If not you should be. Just come to a stop, bring the shifter all the way down to 'L', push the hold on, and then powerbrake it. In nice cool to cold weather, my car will start breaking the tires loose around 3000 rpm. Once you get to that perfect point just take your foot off and awaaaaaaaaay you go! You will have about 1/2 of a second in first gear, be prepared to shift QUICK, either by turning the hold off, which will allow the car to shift to second gear, or shoving the shifter to 'S'.
Keep in mind that with the relatively low torque output you will never be able to match a manual launching.
Rolling starts are a whole 'nother story........

Step one: Buy a 5 speed.

Step two: rev and release clutch.

Or buy a V8, rotary engines(2 rotors anyway) are not powerful on the low end, nothing that you can do about that regaurdless of how much money you spend, or what technique you use.

Don't stomp the accelerator after releasing the brake. Gradually depress the accelerator and you may notice that this is much faster. I think throttle stomping either causes ignition retarding or it confuses the stock oxygen sensor.

i agree. ive been trying to figure this out. i though it was just my car.
youll need to just practice diff ways, to figure out what works best. yes no matter what you do the auto is going to be a DOG off the line.

The stock fd auto is just plain-*** lazy off the line a combination of tall rear end (3.90) tall 1st gear (when added together its almost equal to 2nd on a 5 speed) and a weak/sloppy stock torque converter - the best you can do is like bajaman said - left foot brake shift to L-HOLD (locks in 1st gear) roll on the throttle and release the brake @ 1800-2000rpm then roll on to WOT (don't slam it to the floor it will bog) at 4500-5000rpm when secondary boost bangs back up to 10+psi you will break the tires loose and it will go from 5000 to 7000 rpm in about .25 sec so be prepared to shift up to 2nd (or release the hold button ) in a hurry! when launched like this mine gets to 7200 rpm And sounds the BUZZER before it shifts to second
