Last minute suggestions anyone?
i just finished doing my rats nest. wasnt as bad as i expected.... minus the knuckle wound. if you need solenoids hit up frtiz flynn he has them all and much cheaper from him used. I got two off of him and they work perfectly. make sure to read the writeups on the vacuum jobs. Dont forget to use a razor and some needle nose pliers either for whatever you havent taken apart yet, will ensure you dont break anything.

yeah i saw that suggestion in a write up but me and my muscle car background i just ignored it and gave some of the stuck lines a twist to break the seal, and i broke more than the seal, i broke a few nipples off the sensors. oh well. i guess i had to learn the hard way. has anyone counted the total amount of vac connections on this motor, im guessing it has to be in upwards of 50

Hey everyone just wanted to show my progress on the motor...

heating up the front bolt

it finally let go

my ghetto way of holding the flywheel still

but hey it worked

maybe using the bellhousing bolt wasnt the best idea....

my first look inside

those seals didnt hold up so well

my best looking apex seal

haha yeah good call, ive caught the garage cat licking up some small puddles but she is still kicking, maybe she built up a tolerance. but those epoxy floors help out a lot when it comes to the clean up

alright its come time to clean up these parts. from what ive read on the board many people suggest chem cleaners such as simple green or that purple power stuff, but im not the dipping and scrubbing kind haha. i have my bench top abrasive blaster with 80 grit aluminum oxide ive been using to clean up water pumps and such. my question is...do i have to mask anything inparticular or keep the media from getting in somewhere or keep away from the apex seals to keep from messing with the integrity of that area? im planning on replacing the bearings already on the rotors so i dont care much about them. and also i havent found much on lapping of the irons. ive heard people say its unnecessary and ive heard some people question why it wasnt done as if the build wasnt complete or done half assed. well thats it for now i guess. thanks guys.

will do, those videos were helpful but the accents were really getting to me. im a new yawker so needless to say the brit accent is like nails on a chalk board to me lol and could the guy say 'fundamentally' any more? i decided to get a fresh batch of parts washer fluid because my last stuff was 3 years old with about 2" of old gasket and RTF and sludge on the bottom i couldnt get that crap on my precious FD parts. so once the safety kleen truck gets to my shop ill be able to get going on it. hopefully pictures will be up soon, ill keep you guys posted...

started to clean the stuff up today when the parts washer solution came....

my rotors sleep with the fishes...

e-shaft, could use a bit of a polishing

rotor housings have NO flaking or corrosion im happy to report they actually look fairly new maybe with the last rebuild, that was a nice surprise

thats my most "grooved" plate, i suppose it just normal wear from the side and corner seals. my fingernails dont catch on any spots, but i have to throw the magnetic base and dial indicator on there and check the tolerance*fingers crossed*
has anyone gone through the re-nitrating process for the irons? is it worth it? i have a guy who was going to lap them for $65 per face and re nitrate for $110 per iron. im thinking i dont need the lapping but im not sure about the nitrate treatment. maybe ill try and polish them up myself with some lapping paste. ill keep you posted on the progress when the rotors come out of their bath

here are some more pics for those keeping up with my build...

decided to replace the bearings due to some worn spots

thanks to whoever gave the heads up to use part of the front pulley assembly as a pressing die, worked great!

POP!!! knew it was coming and it still made me jump lol

from underneath

finally

and the stat. gears...

used a 1 1/4" 1/2" socket as a die for the stat gear bearings

worked like a charm

bearings all popped out ready for more cleaning...

and another
before and after...

finished up the rotors, brought them to work to get the side seal and apex grooves nice and clean, gotta love getting paid to work on the FD

lots of carbon build-up

nice and clean apex seal

soaking both of the housings

mild scotchbrite took off most of the old gasket material

some other old gasket was stuck in there pretty good

put the light wire wheel on the dremel and did work son!

much better

there was a lot of light carbon lines around the apex face of the housing but it comes right off with light grit sand paper. no flaking at all around the edges or around the leading or trailing spark plug holes...good news

well to anyone who has been paying attention to this thread i have not given up on the fd. within the past month my DD died along with my laptop. so being truckless and computerless sucked. thanks to the cheap hard drives alienware decided to put in my "top of the line" computer, I lost alllllll of my data which includes the hundreds of pictures i took of the fd and all the good info ive collected over the past few months. needless to say i was not a happy camper. but thankfully i loaded up a **** ton of this stuff on photobucket to share with everyone so all is not lost on that front. currently the irons are off getting lapped and renitrided by chip's motorsports after a quick streetport by yours truely. i will be putting up pictures shortly once i find the CF card from the camera. at this rate I hope to get her back on the road by august and make it to some meets and of course englishtown

more pics as requested...
here are some that were recovered from my crashed hard drive may it RIP
here is some masking on the rotor housings before they went into the blast cabinet

all masked up on the chrome

i came over the edge about 1/4"

masked off the spark plug holes as well

thanks to all the dust on the fd while blasting inside i moved the operation outside and covered her up

i need a bigger blast cabinet...

nice and clean

before and after

then onto the irons

ahh nice and clean

porting and stuff
my humble attempt at my mild street port with pineapple's template
unmasking from the blasting

laying out the template

first look at how much material is coming off the ports

used some flat black paint to lay out the scribe

scratch awl

center iron
