Large backfire/fuel cut problem
I've done a fairly brief search on this subject, haven't found something that is close enough to my problem to be sure so I figured I'd post a new thread.
Basically.. I haven't been driving my car too often this last week, and I let a friend borrow it one day just recently. (I think he might have been way too easy on the car) Today when I hopped into the car, it started up fine, idle was good, all fluid levels were okay so I was ready to go for a drive.. took it easy for the first few minutes to let it get up to temperature.. but then once it was, I decided that I'd have some fun.
Wrong!
Whenever I put my foot into the throttle any more 1/4, I get an immediate lack of power followed by an absolutely HUGE backfire. Sounds like a gunshot. From what I've read this sounds like.. limp mode? I don't know a whole lot about that, so if someone could send me a link or some reading material that would be great.
What I thought I'd do is try and reset my ECU.. correct me if i'm wrong, but the process is disconnecting the battery terminals, then pumping the brake pedal till it gets hard and then let the car sit for about 10 minutes before reconnecting the battery terminals. (Is it necessary to disconnect both + and - terminals?
Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Just the negative will do the trick, and I don't think you need to wait 10 min, just unplugging and pumping the brake to drain most of the power usually does the trick, at least it worked for me when trying to clear some codes off the computer.....

Sounds like it's going lean when you get into it. Any check engine error codes? You might want to check your MAP and/or TPS sensors. A Secondary injector could be suspect as well.
I don't think this is the infamous 3K hesitation, nor do I think resetting the ecu is going to help. It will not hurt to check the grounds--but don't count on it being the problem.

Thanks for the replies, been pretty busy so I haven't had the time to try anything yet but I'll try disconnecting the negative and pumping the brake for now. I'm hoping it's nothing else because the last time I drove it everything was in working order.. boost was strong blah blah, running smoothly for the most part except this fuel cut issue I'm running into.
Thanks again for the replies, any additional help is much appreciated. I'll post my progress tomorrow.
