I needed a more reliable brake light because of the tail lght cover im using. So what do you think?

Its not a cheap alternative. It will set you back about 180 bucks in led panels.

do they make those panels in circles? that would look awsome, great job btw!

 

you could always use square panels and paint the inner lense (like '99 spec upgrade that lots of people do) to make them appear circular.

Yes it is the shine auto sports tail light cover. Its not fully installed yet, im waiting to paint the car. Once its put on its going to be a bitch to take it off, because of the double sided tape required to hold it on.


RX 007 I remember seeing three inch round led assemblys online some where. They should be easy to find.

93Vrfd_Huston: I think Shine Auto is selling the tail light cover for $500.00. I paid 575 because of sales tax. Its very hard to get on and off. Its very well made. My only complaint which is not Shines fault is getting to spoiler on usally involves scratching the brake lenses up if you dont use percausions. Just put some tape on the leading edges as you instal and you will be fine.

Looks good~ But I would prefer LED with clear cover, so you could actually see the individual LEDs. And maybe in circular pattern so it appears like the 99-spec taillight~

 

Sounds good in theory but when a few LEDs fail it will look terrible.

That turned out really good. Did you use 8 of those panel per side? I know LED's don't pull much power but did you just wire them together and then into the power from the car?

 

Yes, I used eight panels for the each brake light and two for the blinker. Each brake LED assembly has three wires coming off of it. Black is ground, yellow is running lights, and the red is for the brake light. Connect all of the yellow, red, and black wires together then solder it to the appropriate wire on one of the connectors you cut off of the panels. Then plug the conector from the panels to the factory rx7 socket, then simply replace the rx7 socket into the brake light assembly.

I found that the only glue that will hold the panels to the plexi glass is silicon glue. Similar to the stuff they seal fish tanks with.
