My dad is looking for some new rubber for his FD. In the past he's run Potenza S03s and been very happy with them, but we're exploring our options.

Car has approx 300 rwhp, street driving car, rain or shine. More concerned with performance than tread life.

The MXs are priced reasonably, and I've heard random positive things about them in the past. I'm looking for feedback from guys who have put a high amount of miles on them......what was your experience? Would you purchase them again?

I'm also looking at the Eagle F1 GS-D3 and Toyo T1R.

Because I want it to get more exposure. Not as many FD owners go to that section frequently---most of the traffic is right here

these are amazing tires for both wet and dry you will be impressed

 

I also hear they are a good tire and considered them for my stock rims. Talked to a vette owner at work who has them on his car and loves them for the price.

Are these for stock rims? If so, I went with the Hankook Ventus RS-2 Z212 because they come in 245/45/16 and are ~$100 as well. Read up on reviews.

i have Kuhmo 712 Ecsta Supra ZR Tires: 265/40/17 Rear, 235/45/17 Front

Yup, for stock rims.

Theorie, my dad briefly ran the 712s (against my advice, lol) and he absolutely hated them. Compared to an S02 or S03, he said they had zero grip and squeeled easily. He dismounted them and sold them after about 2k miles.

This was in 245/45/16.

Very good max performance tire, decent wear and good all round performance. A tad soft on turn in for track use however good slip angle control. How about the Falken RT615's?? newer generation of tire technolgy.

 

What's the new tire that Khumo's coming out with that they designed to upstage the Falken's? During development, they nicknamed it the FK for Falken Killer or something like that.

 

I read about them, sound great, however I don't think they are available yet..

 

I have Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 and love them. My first set ran really well. I'm under 1k into the 2nd set and they're just as good. Superb in the rain and excellent in the dry.

However, since I hardly drive my car but to autox's and track events, I'm tempted to sell the tires and buy a near R-compound tire instead. Which means if you're interested there would be a set of 225/50R16s for $300 or so.

Gene, I considered the RE-01R for my next set of 18 inch Fikses, but they don't make them wide enough......

 

Did some searching and they're called the Khumo Ecsta XS. Taken from another website:

"I spoke to a chief engineer and he tells me that the Falken RT-615 was the benchmark and that their test driver is consistently faster on the Kumho. Internally the tire has been known as the FK (Falken Killer). The test driver has also been faster on the new Kumho over the Bridgestone RE-01R.

If you're wondering why the one of the circumferential grooves is closer to the outside, it is for better rain performance without sacrificing dry grip.

Construction and design is finalized. Compound has yet to be finalized should be in orderly fashion to meet the April deadline. Cannot say whether all the sizes will be immediately available but time will tell.

Prices should be similar to Falken RT-615 prices which will represent a good deal for such a fast tire."

Ah, lol, I searched for "falken killer" because I thought I had read about it on here, but didn't come up with anything.

 

Hmm... I am very happy with this tire. It really impressed me, as I am used to bald tires for some reason. Is it just me or did they discontinue the 265/40/17 tires?

I could not find them for my supra wheels. I just went with the 255 because for the 275's I would have to roll my fenders.

 

I have had these tires for a while and I like them alot, especially for the price point. They are predictable at the limit and tend to recover well, but as with any tire they are losing adhesion limits as they get older, I only mention this since to me they seem to have fallen off more that other tires as they get older (but this may just be me).

KDW2's have the same specs as the MX's. The KDW2's wear much better though...

 

I'm not convinced the KDW2s are as sticky as the MX. I'm running the KDWs right now and am happy with their dry performance, but they're not suited to the rain very well.
