koyo wont fit in an auto? wtf?

All Koyo Radiators are made for manual transmission's only. If you have an automatic, with oil cooler, this will NOT work.

i copied that from the koyo site and was wondering how the radiator has anything to do with the tranny. does anyone know why the radiator would have trouble fitting into an auto FD? does it, or are those bastards just lying so i wont buy their product?

Auto radiator has a built-in trans cooler, manual radiator doesn't.

I've looked through the FSM and see that there is water that runs through the AT oil cooler and transmission. My question is "why?". If this is for cold weather operation it might make sense (except anyone who drives their car in the snowy winter has a death wish). Why not use a Koyo radiator and let the other lines just stay dry?

yeah, I knew that. When I bought my replacement radiator from Autozone, they asked me if it was auto or manual. I think it was the same one either way because mine still had the connections for the trans cooler. At the time I didn't know anything about it, so I tried to plug the connections, thinking I'd lose coolant, LOL!!!

the radiator will warm the auto trans fluid. not cool it. its used for cold climate areas. I re routed the lines when I installed my fluidyne radiator . no problems at all.

NO It's called a TRANNY COOLER. The auto tranny is a pump, and if you heat the fluid you are going to lose a tranny due to over heating it.

You just didn't Read the Info correctly ..YES the Koyo can be used on a Car with Automatic transmission,..BUT,you will need a Separate Cooler for the Transmission due to the fact that the Radiator is so Big/thick(why they cool so well!)..I'm suprised Nismo didn't lead you to this..HERE Look for yourself http://www.absoluteradiator.com/Prod....asp?idProd=17 hope that explains it...(DOH!..Edit..this is for Sec gen but assuming that 3rd gen would apply the same way)

I really hope this thread is a joke! If not, please sell your FD NOW or learn how to read. Comprehension is your friend!

If you do not decide to take my advice, then buy this, http://www.awrracing.com/pages/cooling.html P/N:
#0000-01-7505-AT 1993-95 RX-7 Automatic Transmission. Expensive yes, but well worth the investment.

This is the exact same company that makes the radiators that Mazdaspeed sells.

LOL yeah i'm also thinking a bunch of non experienced (notice i didn't say kids) and a bunch of hack a honda owners are jumping the rx7 world because they think it's cool to drift it...

jay3 why would you buy a auto radiator now at 100% of the price, then convert your car to manual, causing you to buy another one at 100% price and losing out money on an USED auto radiator that will be hard to sell due to the rarity of auto FDs?

Do it once and be done with it rather than going circles. Did you even get that car? I sure hope it was a good deal if you did (I'm talking half price or something)

Well actually the auto FD's have two tranny oil coolers from factory. One is in the lower side of the radiator from which the oil is further cooled by the oil cooler in the passenger side in the front. Yes most people will mistake the second cooler in the front as the engine oil cooler as it is done in the 'R' models but in the autos the passenger's side cooler is used for the tranny. I have done numerous aftermarket radiator installations in auto FD's and just bypassed the radiator.
BTW. the tranny oil cooler does have a thermo valve in it so it's basically bypassed untill the oil gets up to operating temperature just like it's done with the engine oil cooler also.
