I use to have a fluidyne radiator in my fd but after the car was totalled i bought another fd and was wondering about the dimensions of the three radiators, i've read that the pwr and fluidyne ones are the same size but what about the koyo ones. I would assume that all three radiators would perfor equally as good but anyone have any personal experience with the koyo one, since its a little bit chepaer, i'm leaning towards the koyo unit. I loved the fluidyne that i use to have but hey the koyo is $65 cheaper from the rx7store. I did a search but didnt find the dimensions.

 

i think koyo is fatter and harder to fit. just what i've read i haven't upgraded radiator yet

 

I dont have the dimensions, but the KOYO is THICK... makes the stocker look like a very bad joke. If you're planning on using the stock IC duct and airbox, it has to be mounted a little lower than the stock rad, requiring the left side AC rad braket to be flipped around (no biggie).

When I got the rad I was really suprised. The welds are perfect and the overall quality is amazing.

 

ditto. It is huge! I have one.. very nice.. easy to install also.. gotta flip the bracket on the left side also.. nice rad though.. very nice!

 

I love the KOYO, it fit well, only thing is exactly, its thick!, my fans kinda rubbed at first but not on the radiator, they were rubbing on themselves its hard to explain but the koyo is king...

 

I just got my koyo, I am going to try to install in a couple weeks...It looks really good... I will post on install when I do it

i have seen the koyo in person and i have the fluidyne now. the koyo is noticable thicker. a guy a talked to said he only had a problem with fitment because it was thicker, but it fit in the holes fine. either one is a good upgrade

 

I've been through 2 passenger radiator fans in the last 6 months. the koyo smashes the shroud and the fan against my intercooler.

oh well.

 

I guess thats the radiator that i'll be buying, thanks for all the input. By the way, Koyo makes replacement radiators that are better if not the same quality as oe radiators at a fraction of the price. I tried to order the koyo al radiator through the shop that i work at but it they dont carry the all al on just the al with the plastic end tanks, that one would have only cost me $140, but rather have the extra thick one.

 

the point of buying a aftermarket radiator i thought was to get rid of the plastic end tanks. i dont think that it being thicker is that important just that the endtanks dont break. i would rather have a radiator that held coolant than have one that doesnt

 

Just as a side note....
I was shopping for one several months ago too, and this is what I found out: Tri-point wanted about $400 JUST for the install. They said the Koyo sux when it comes to the install, while the Fluidyne fits in fine, and so I was only going to get charged $150 or so.... Keep in mind they are a reputable shop here in So. Cal.
Mazdatrix, who is also a reputable shop around here, was willing to install either one for about $150 also.... and they said that the Koyo fits fine. Turns out that Tri-point ONLY sold the Fluidyne ones (and the person on the phone was trying pretty hard to convince me of the inferior Koyo) while Mazdatrix will order whichever one you want.

holy cow $400 for install? i did mine myself took like 2 hours. all i need was a socket set and plyers. i didnt even put my car on jack stands. i just dove in from the top. man i am glad i did it myself now. it was worth the bloody knuckles
