Koyo Rad install

I will be installing a KOYO radiator this weekend but I'm not sure about something and cant proceed until I'm sure.

I bought the KOYO because it was said to be the best and bolts right in without any modification to the car itself.

I have seen several mount their radiators strait up/down instead of in the stock diagnal mount. Doing this would take some modding I assume, but what modding exactly is needed? Also what are the benifits to this as to why so many mount their radiators this way?

Thank you in advance,
~Kris

most people mount it vertically due to a front mount intercooler....

if you have the stock intercooler, then the radiator will still go in the stock location.

Do a search for koyo on the install

I don't know of anyone mounting their radiator upright with the stock intercooler. Whether it's the stock location, or the upright location for a FMIC, the only reasoning is for fitment. Do you still have your stock IC

i'm not sure that you can mount the koyo in a vertical position if you are still running a stock mount ic. currently i have a pfs smic & can not think of any ways to have the koyo mounted vertically due to the air duct being in the way. i just installed the koyo in the stock location of the original rad support. from what i can remember there is a small tab in the upper corner of the frame (psngr side) that you have to trim out. i just used a dremel to remove a small piece...other than that, the fitment was pretty good.

Thank you, I searched with 'Koyo' and 'Koyo install' but found nothing.

I have a Pettit 'Cool Charge II' IC, I am having to have the pipes remade for it but it is a SMIC. I was going to get an ASP Medium but I got a good deal on this one so I went ahead and bought it. Well since I'm not going FMIC and never really plan to, due to the restriction of airflow it imposes on the radiator I think I shall stay stockmount.

Thanks everyone,
~Kris

Who told you the Koyo is a direct drop in? It's not. It requires some minor cutting, flipping, etc. of some parts.

I expect to trim the fan shroud and some plastic possibly but I dont want to trim any metal or chassis parts. I still feel that to be pretty much 'drop in'... my Pettit intake was 'drop in' but it still required some motivation and bending of the heatshield.

current prices seem to be running between $330 and $360 around the web. the guys who were running the $330 special on Ebay are backordered right now.

i understand about not wanting to cut on the chassis, but the koyo wont fit in unless you cut that plastic molding. It took me about 30 minutes with a dremel.
Either that or you could possibly bend the bottom brackets that hold the radiator so that it is further towards the engine.
my advice, do it from the top, drop it in without the fans on to see how it will fit, and then put the fans in (you have to force them a little by the top outlet from the radiator. remember you have to leave enough room on top for everything to go back on.
