$250 isn't bad at all. A friend of mine has a set of fully assembled coil overs and the only shop that will put those on around here want ~$450 to put them on. Keep in mind, these are fully assembled, all they would have to do is swap them with the stock springs and struts.

If you have the time do it yourself. Its not too hard at all.

My shop only charge me $100 to put on my shocks and springs. $250 is spendy. You guys think that's cheap? It's only a 2 hour job.

Seriously get a set of spring clamps and do it yourself. You'll learn some things and yada blah blah blah. Like lone wolf said, it's 2 hours ... tops.

it is very easy. i have helped install springs/shocks many times, on several different car, and it honestly easier than you think. takes about 30-45 minutes a corner if you take your time.

definately NOT worth $250 of labor.

I did shocks and spring installs all by myself and let me tell you that it can be a pain in the ***, especially if no one is helping you.

Time to Do it Yourself! Its much better that way! Even if it is a pain in the *** the first time. I have a friend who is afraid to change his own oil! Hes one of those types that wants a car you can just get in and drive, and never have to worry about it, or just take it to the dealer. There are a few online resources you can use, as well as the Mazda factory manual.
Get a friend to help you out next weekend, rent a spring compressor, throw the car up on jack stands and let us know how you make out!

Johnny-

It's just that a lot of shops around here are used to fixed up cars and there is a lot of competition for business. A shop with good tools shoud be able to swap a suspension out of a FD in about an hour.

Only the front are a pain. When I put in my Hiper Dampers, if i remember correctly, my rears only took me 1/2 hour to do with a floor jack and hand tools.

Ain't that the truth! The ABS thing, and some of that stuff is really stuck on there good! When you do it your self, you learn something about your car and save more money for mods or a pizza, or a night at the Nudie bar (if thats your thing).

Those of you that think $250 is too much to install springs and shocks are in need of a reality check. Unless you live in Bumf#$k Egypt. The land of McDonalds pricing is gone. You need to remember, you have a FD not a Toyota Corolla.

Had my Tokico Illuminas and Eibachs put on by Apex Auto out in Marlborough, MA. Had everything done including 4 wheel street-alignment done for $260 (the alignment was $100). The shop owner is a serious Miata AutoX guy and the work was stupendous. The car handled AMAZING after the work was done. Make sure to get the alignment done after any suspension work. Otherwise you won't be maximizing the value of your investment.

4-wheel alignment costs around $30 because i got the deal as a package when i got the tires.

ErnieT- I think it's the opposite. Those who live in BFE will get charged more since there are less shops and people who know what they are doing. Most shops in LA average about $80 for spring/shocks install.

Good alignment is usually $60-100 but then again the place I go a place that ususally just works on Exotics

I recently got an estimate for my Tokico and Eibachs, which are already put together.. and they guy at MIDAS (because I was getting my CV replace on my other car) quoted me 450!!! NOW that's a rip off!!! And the funny thing is that I could of gotten a 4 new struts replaced for 350?? Which include labor?? So, does that make sense?? I asked the manager and he said No.. its lot harder for an RX7.. O>K> I have to say, that's Complete BS!!! Stupid CIncinnati Mechanics.. I wonder of about these people.. If they even know anything..

Just my 2 cents
